Xhip Effects

Xhip Effects free stereo-imaging by aciddose

Xhip Effects is a free stereo imaging VST, Audio Unit plugin developed by aciddose. Compatible OS(s): Windows 64b, macOS.

These effect plugins were originally created for use with Xhip Synthesizer.

Instead of a downloadable manual: detailed documentation is maintained for each effect on the Xhip Effects page.

What are Xhip Effects?

The Xhip Effects bundle are simple, general purpose effects designed to be flexible, easy to use and most importantly fun. They are intended to be used in a more plug-and-play, old school, “analog” or “by ear” way. Each effect includes only the essential parameters in a format expected from a rack-mount or pedal.

Other effect plug-ins have more specialized designs that attempt to do what some might consider “too much”. This can overcomplicate their application as simple effects like a stereo delay.

The Xhip Effects provide every parameter via the plug-in interface for parameter automation and do not include presets, menus or other complicated UI features.

The effects include:

  • Fully resizable and partially skinnable GUIs (by editing configuration file).
  • Reverb – Designed to avoid an ultra-smooth fade-to-noise decay.
  • Compressor – Insert based upon a minimal electronic circuit.
  • Gate – Standard with additional features including side-chain input.
  • Limiter – Counterpart to the compressor for limiting with a simple design.
  • Vocal – A phoneme filter made from formant filters.
  • Follower – The Xhip synthesizer filter controlled by a HAR envelope follower.
  • mDelay – A modulated stereo delay with a feedback filter.
  • Phaser – Standard with a variable number of stages.
  • Tremolo – Standard with the bonus of a continuously variable LFO shape.
  • Clipper – Generic hard clipper with oversampling.
  • Multiplier – Unique type of fold-back distortion.
  • Quantizer – Time (sample and hold) and amplitude (bit reduction) axis quantization.
  • RC Filter – The most basic analog filter configurable as low-pass or high-pass.
  • Rectifier – Simple diode-like effect capable of half or full rectification.
  • Ringmod – Simple with a timbre control.

Wider

Wider free stereo-imaging by Polyverse Music

Wider is a free stereo imaging VST, VST3, Audio Unit, AAX plugin developed by Polyverse Music. Compatible OS(s): Windows 64b, macOS.

World Famous electronic duo Infected Mushroom and Polyverse are proud to announce Wider, a unique stereo effect for free.

Wider takes the massively popular pseudo stereo section from its sibling, Manipulator, and gives any user the ability to create the illusion of an expanded stereo image of any mono signal to an awe-inspiring degree. However, Wider is a unique stereo plugin in the sense that it is completely “mono-compatible”, meaning that any signal that has been extended will always remain in phase with itself, even if summed to mono.

Many pseudo stereo effects currently in use have the nasty habit of knocking signals out of phase, which can quickly make tracks sound muddy and unbalanced, or make sounds seem flat and lacking dynamics if one isn’t mindful of the effect. Thanks to Wider’s one-of-a-kind all pass and comb filtering algorithm, a natural sounding stereo image is created from a mono channel, without compromising the phase between the sides. Instead, Wider cancels itself out when summed to mono, so the original signal is left intact.

Wider can be used to increase the stereo image of any signal up to 200% of full stereo for an extra wide, exaggerated effect.

Wider is available in VST, AU, and AAX formats, making it compatible with a variety of host applications, including Ableton Live, Logic, Pro Tools, Cubase, and Studio One. It can be used in 32 or 64-bit instances with Windows XP and later and with Mac OS X 10.6 and later.

Wider is available immediately from Polyverse Music for free at polyversemusic.com/products/wider.

Violent Dual

Violent Dual free stereo-imaging by Bitsonic

Violent Dual is a free stereo imaging VST plugin developed by Bitsonic. Compatible OS(s): Windows.

The suitable utilization for Violent Dual is turning mono lanes into stereo with the Chorus effect:

  • The Mix knob changes the ratio of the raw and the stereo sign.
  • Depth function continuously changes the frequency of the sign, moving under or over the original sign. Using his function you can change the frequency-difference compared to the original sign.
  • The Rate function settles the speed of the frequency-change.
  • Delay function can lapse the original and the new sign compared to the other.

One of the many important aspects of Dual is that the new sign never annuls the original, so feel free to use it to change the sense of space with songs, guitars or any other soloistic sound.

V.I Stereo to 5.1 Converter Suite

V.I Stereo to 5.1 Converter Suite free stereo-imaging by Steve Thomson

V.I Stereo to 5.1 Converter Suite is a free stereo imaging VST plugin developed by Steve Thomson. Compatible OS(s): Windows.

V.I Stereo to 5.1 Converter Suite converts a stereo input to a 5.1 output by extracting ambience information embedded in the stereo audio and redistributing it among 5.1 channels.

For VST hosts that do not support a 2-input/6-output VST plugin, the V.I Suite also includes three companion 2-in/2-out plugins: fLfR, CLFE, and sLsR. These duplicate V.I’s effects in three channel pairs, which can later be combined to form a 6-channel file for encoding.

Features

  • Width correction helps compensate for source files that were mixed too narrow or too wide.
  • Independent controls for adding ambience to the front or rear sound-stage.
  • Movie Mode switch redirects some dialog frequencies from front left and right channels to the center channel to enhance dialog while still maintaining a good stereo sound-stage.
  • Pass-through of original left and right signals ensures accurate reproduction of original stereo imaging (when not in Movie Mode).
  • On/off control for A-B monitoring of effect.
  • Switchable LFE channel.

UpStereo

ZynAddSubFX free software-synthesizer by paulnasca 4

UpStereo is a free stereo imaging VST, Audio Unit plugin developed by QuikQuak. Compatible OS(s): Windows, macOS.

UpStereo is a simple, useful tool to make your mixes bigger, in stereo width and loudness.

It uses three basic basic systems:

  1. A fixed frequency EQ designed to lift the highest audio frequencies, and boost the bass.
  2. A stereo width unit, for expanding stereo sounds so they appear wider and fatter. At extreme levels other characteristics are also brought out of the sound, so this can also be used as a tonal control for individual instruments. This also has a mono setting, useful for squashing up those aggressive samples that take over the mix.
  3. A loudness button that raises the waveform to the limits in a smooth curve. This saturation gives the mix a more perceived loudness, without clipping.

These stages create an overall loudness effect on the final output, so a gain control is included to keep the limits in check.

The main ‘bubble’ display on the plug-in is really a basic meter, when one of the stereo halves flash white, then the output is in danger of being clipped. Try and keep the levels so the white flashes only occasionally, this enables the loudness saturator to work at its best.

Features:

  • Loudness control enables a complex saturator to boost your mixes.
  • Stereo width slider going from mono to wide, bringing the stereo image out and towards the listener.
  • Subtle Air & Bass boosters to lift and help the audio ‘breath’.
  • Very low CPU usage.
