Mutant Koto

Mutant Koto is a free rompler VST plugin developed by Mutagene. Compatible OS(s): Windows.

Mutant Koto is a simple VSTi that implements a plucked string model using two strings that can be detuned and coupled, first-order loop filters on each, controllable quantization of the coupled signal (called ‘leakage’ in the synthesizer) and a warped IIR lattice filter applied either to the leakage or to the output stage.

The maximum order of the warped lattice is 30 and the preset filters were derived to very roughly model some of the body resonances of the named instruments, along with a formant filter and some random filter choices.

Music Maker

Music Maker virtual instrument is a free dulcimer sound bank for Kontakt, by Bolder Sounds.

This free sample library was originally created in April of 2004 in conjunction with the release of the Hammered Dulcimer Trilogy. Since then – Bo Clausen has updated this instrument with Kontakt scripting which takes this instrument to a whole new level yet again in Version 4. Make sure Kontakt 4 is updated at least to version 4.2.4 or higher. If you already have a previous version, you still should download the entire V4 package.

The Music Maker is a dulcimer designed as a child’s toy musical instrument. It is supplied with a guitar pick and some sheets that slide underneath the string telling you which strings to pluck from left to right. Featuring such hits as Darling Clementine and Aura Lee, etc.

Panel Controls:

Velocity: adjusts the velocity response, use this in accordance to your MIDI controller’s settings to find the best action response.

Hardness: adjusts the hardness of the virtual “reeds”.

Tremolo: turns on/off and adjusts the amount of tremolo, with a fixed frequency of 6 Hz, triangle waveform.

Tone: a low pass filter, use this to brighten or darken the sound.

Mr. Alias

Mr. Alias is a free software synthesizer developed by Insert Piz Here. Available format(s): VST, Audio Unit for Windows, macOS.

Mr. Alias 2 uses non-bandlimited oscillators which can be transposed near to and beyond the Nyquist frequency, causing most of their spectra to be aliased back into audible non-harmonic frequencies. The sound can then be further processed by a number of crude “effects.”

Though it is based on the same concept as the original, Mr. Alias 2 is completely rewritten for cross-platform compatibility, and has a number of significant improvements.

MP-1 is a free software synthesizer for Reaktor, developed by Multiples Pro. Available format(s): for Windows, macOS.

We have gone ahead and updated one of our other synthesisers in MPBASIC, to the MP-1.

The synthesizer is broken down into 4 main sections:

Oscillators – choice of 8, Multi-OSC from the original synth, Sin/Tri, Sin/Saw and Sin/Squ.

Filters – 3 in total, 4-pole, Comb and Formant varieties.

Distortion – 1 distorted filter and 1 waveshaper.

FX – 1 compressor and 1 chorus.

Due to the semi-modular capability of the synthesizer you can choose which of these to use, opening up a wealth of possibilities within sound design.
