Handclap Boss virtual instrument is a free drums sound bank for Kontakt, by Sample Katra.

The Handclap Boss is a Kontakt interpretation of the Boss HC2 hand clapper (1984). Our interpretation includes the same original controls but adds some enhanced tone-shaping features to bring this overlooked classic in line with modern music production and workflows.

While claps is the main game here, we’ve got plenty of useful whistles, pops, clicks & whooshes to make this a versatile companion to our Percussion Boss. We sampled eleven round-robins to capture plenty of nuance and bring as much Katra of the original instrument as we thought practical. Grab it now. It’s free.

Growlybass

Growlybass virtual instrument is a free bass sound bank for Sforzando, by Karoryfer.

A sample library of a Squier Jazz bass guitar. The sustained notes have four round robins and four velocity layers. The staccato notes have one velocity layer and five round robins, and their endings are also used for the key release samples. Everything is sampled every minor third, with the low string also sampled tuned down to C#. Finally, there are some pick scrapes with four round robins. All that adds up to 310 24-bit 44.1 kHz wav samples and a 159 MB download.

Seven different SFZ mappings are included. The samples are recorded direct and processed only with noise reduction, so for a classic bass guitar sound they should be used with an amp simulator. The demo uses the most realistic mapping run through free amp sim and channel strip plugins, followed by the least realistic three-voice mapping run through a sweeping low-pass filter, reverb and compression.

Gratis IR virtual instrument is a free sound bank for Iris, by Homegrown Sounds.

Gratis IR, as the name suggests, is a completely free collection of pads for iZotope Iris which is equal to half of one of the paid collections. Although some samples are used from the other Iris releases, the actual Iris instruments are all unique to Gratis IR.

The instruments were constructed using 1-3 samples and take full advantage of the spectral features of Iris, and most have Aftertouch assigned to the Filter Cutoff. The intention was to provide musically useful pads full of texture and movement. All 100 WAVs that form the Gratis Sample collection are also available to explore when creating your own sounds:

Grate Bass Lite virtual instrument is a free bass sound bank for Kontakt, by borth audio.

Grate Bass Lite is a virtual instrument for Native Instruments Kontakt giving you usual and unusual scratchy sounds of an electric bass played with a pick. Grate Bass Lite is the free version of Grate Bass (which features three more sound patches and four additional effects). The output of the bass was recorded using a DI and in addition a large diaphragm condenser microphone was pointed 30 cm above the neck to record the scratchy pick sounds separately:

Gombulator

Gombulator virtual instrument is a free sound bank for Kontakt, by Fine Cut Bodies.

Gombulator is a free Kontakt instrument based on a rare portable synth from the early ’80s. The Yamaha PSR-15 has six preset sounds plus a set of drums, all of which were meticulously sampled before arranging them into the twisted interface of Gombulator.

The instrument has been heavily used on Hungarian Synth Pop duo, The Gomb’s debut album Breaks (and Amends) released on Chi-Recordings.
