MjHarmonicPingOnly

ZynAddSubFX free software-synthesizer by paulnasca 2

MjHarmonicPingOnly is a free software synthesizer developed by Smart Electronix. Available format(s): VST for Windows, macOS.

By Magnus @ Smart Electronix.

MjHarmonicPingOnly lets you to explore “just intonation” and the harmonic overtone and undertone series. As the name suggests, it bears some similarity to Bram’s OnePingOnly.

Magnus created it as part of his ongoing exploration of just intonation and what’s beyond 12 tone equal temperament (the tuning that has been popular in the west for the last 100 years).

MiSUCO – Microtonal Touch Controller

MiSUCO - Microtonal Touch Controller free software-synthesizer | midi-controller | education by misuco.org

MiSUCO – Microtonal Touch Controller is a free software synthesizer and midi controller developed by misuco.org. Available format(s): for iOS.

osc (Open Sound Control) /MIDI controller with musical scale generator and simple synthesizer.

Experience microtonal tuning in a way that was never available before.

Explore the universe of musical scales and microtonal tunings on the built in synth or on any external synth that you can connect trough wlan and a computer. The MISUCO app has interfaces to common music software such as Max/MSP, Reaktor, puredata, supercollider. You can also control a conventional MIDI keyboard, if you have a computer with a MIDI interface. MISUCO is able to translate arbitrary frequencies into MIDI note number and pitch values.

The MISUCO software can also be used as a versatile touchscreen keyboard and controller and enables a maximum of the available screen for your performance.

What is microtonality?

In music normally we divide one octave in seven to twelve steps. You can see this on a piano, which has a repeating pattern of seven white and five black keys. One form of microtonal tuning divides one octave in 1200 steps called cents. This system is used to explain fine tunings of instruments. Another form is to pull the strings of an instrument. Then the note is detuned to some frequency between the scale. This form of playing is essential in classical Indian music but also widely found in many other music playing styles.

How can you experience microtonality with MISUCO?

With the MISUCO software you can play with and experience these ways of microtonality. You can translate microtonality to regular MIDI instruments, using the free software puredata on your WLAN equipped computer: MISUCO has a microtonal scale tuner, which lets you tune each note on an octave in cent steps. Then it has a microtonal mode (mm) that blurs the frequency space between the scale and you can play the frequencies between, like pulling a string of an instrument. If you do not like to use any external equipment and software, MISUCO has a simple but powerful built in synthesizer.

Last but not least MISUCO is a browser to the newly founded scales.misuco.org online scales archive. With one click on the ?-key you get directed to the page related to the current scale on your MISUCO where you can discuss, share and read about that scale.

Be aware that this app is mainly designed for tablets and running it on a device with smaller screen than 10″ requires good eyes and tiny fingers.

FAQ: I hear no sound:

  • Make sure your phone is not muted and the volume is up.
  • Press long, some sound have require some attack time.
  • Make sure you have at least version 1.01 installed.

I wish you much inspiration, creativity, self development, fun and inner peace with MISUCO.

Minisynth series

Minisynth series free software-synthesizer by Acrobatics

Minisynth series is a free software synthesizer developed by Acrobatics. Available format(s): VST for Windows.

The Minisynth series collection consist of three instruments: FRET, GRIT and PEAK.
As an overall concept, Acrobatics simplified controls and packed implementations to the highest grade to push-up users creativity first and give steady look and maximum usability to the three polyphonic synthesizers. A reasonable set of sounds for each synth is included.

FRET is an accurate reproduction of phase modulation synthesizers of the eighties: reproduces pianos, basses, organs and bells patches with ease, and it can explore wild and spacey atmos using alternative programming.

GRIT is voted to pulses, PWM and organ-like sounds: uses a proprietary mix of phase distortion principles in order to produce its sounds. It is the dirty of the family, watch out for massive aliasing and punchness.

PEAK is the analogue baby of the lot. Classic acid and house tones are at hand. Here the LFO addresses pitch of a clean square or sawtooth waveform with typical Minisynth series advanced modulation extras.

Common look and feel and standardized location of knobs and switches goes in the direction of helping musician when in a busy musical work, when he/she certainly requires instant access to basic synthesis controls and settings to fit in the mix. The Minisynth series collection is also suitable for educational purposes for its separate interpretations of most important synthesis methods and applications.

MinimogueVA

MinimogueVA free software-synthesizer by Voltkitchen

MinimogueVA is a free software synthesizer developed by Voltkitchen. Available format(s): VST for Windows.

MinimogueVA is an emulation of the classic Minimoog but includes additional features such as dedicated Release knobs for the two Contour Generators (envelopes), Tuning of Osc 1, Fine Tuning sliders for Osc2 and Osc3, Aftertouch control, 3 Overdrive sliders: one per oscillator (sort of a chorus effect to help thicken the sound), Oscillator Sync, Oscillator Drift (to emulate a drifting analog VCO), and a fully programmable Digital Delay.

Like the original Minimoog, you can turn Osc3 into an LFO with dedicated modulation knobs for the Osc Pitch and the Filter. There is no dedicated Noise Generator as on the original Mini, but pink and white noise are selectable on Osc 3. All controls are mapped to MIDI CC#s, and you can override the default settings by using the MIDI Learn feature.

Mini-Vyn

ZynAddSubFX free software-synthesizer by paulnasca 2

Mini-Vyn is a free software synthesizer developed by Roberson Audio Synthesizers. Available format(s): VST for Windows.

The Mini-Vyn is an original virtual analog/subtractive design, entered as a competition piece for KVR Audio’s Developer Competition circa 2006.

Originally started as a learning test bed in trying to create an Odyssey emulation (noting that this project in fact shares no direct relation to Oddy-Free), this instrument has been morphed into a seriously smooth, seriously rich instrument. With the ability to be monophonic as well as polyphonic (and possessing a slightly different tonal quality between the modes), the Mini-Vyn is also an incredibly flexible “bread-and-butter” VA. To set it truly apart, the instrument has a feedback-overdrive circuit of original Roberson Audio design that gives the filter a rich and organic sound when pushed to the extreme.
