Sonatina Orchestra Module

Sonatina Orchestra Module is a free rompler VST plugin developed by bigcat instruments. Compatible OS(s): Windows.

The Sonatina Orchestra Module puts the Orchestral samples by Mattias Westlund into a single VST Module for greater convenience. The whole ‘Rompler’ weighs in at a touch over 1 gig and since each instrument loads separately it should never take over 250 megs of memory (the choir is big). Most instruments use about 50 megs.

There are 20+ instruments including a soloist for every major instrument except the Viola and Double Bass. There are sections for all the important instruments including the Viola and Double Bass. Articulations include Pizzicato for the string sections and Staccato for the strings, brass and flute sections. There is also plenty of percussion along with a piano, harp and choir.

Amplifier envelope, filter envelope, hp/lp filters, reverb, boost (which can be chained after the filters), LFO (tempo-synced) which can be sent to the sample pitch (vibrato), filter pitch, and pan, mixer with an assignable volume knob, and a panel of extra controls (including mod wheel and a fine tuner) hidden under the reverb controls (use the ‘reverb’/’controls’ selector).

Simple Colour Organ

Simple Colour Organ is a free rompler VST plugin developed by ndc Plugs. Compatible OS(s): Windows, macOS.

Simple Colour Organ is a simple OpenGL plugin based on the ‘colour organ’ ideas of people like Father Louis Bertrand Castel and A. Wallace Rimington, where musical notes are seen as corresponding to specific colours.

The plugin is strictly a visual instrument – it does not output any sound. Instead colour is displayed when you hit a key. There are 7 colour palettes included – 6 of which are based on the palettes by the aforementioned Father Castel and Rimington, as well as Alexander Scriabin (all obtained from here), while the seventh is a pastel ‘scale’ of ndc Plugs own devising. You can add your own palettes. The palettes can be changed while the plugin is running by using the left and right mouse buttons to scroll through them.

The plugin also has 2 ‘hidden’ parameters, accessible via automation, which control the attack and delay values of the colour envelope.

shekrs is the third in the ‘reception models’ series (original models by Jacky-Lee). It is a free sample-based VST instrument for Windows featuring five shakers based on Jacky-Lee’s loo-roll, yogurt-pot and paper-cup shakers. Various grooves can be made using the speed, pitch and volume modulation controls, ranging from ordinary to insane. It also has high-pass and low-pass filters, distortion, bitcrushing and panning.
