Phazor

Phazor free phaser by Adam Szabo

Phazor is a free phaser VST plugin developed by Adam Szabo. Compatible OS(s): Windows, macOS.

Phazor emulates the phaser effect found in the Virus synthesizers, which helped make its characteristic sound. Every control has been carefully adjusted to behave just like the phaser from the Virus. It has selectable 1 to 6 stage all-pass filters controlled by an LFO, with spread and feedback controls.

The plug-in is highly optimized and its CPU usage is minimal, allowing for multiple instances to be used in a project.

Phaser Box

Phaser Box free phaser by Synthescience

Phaser Box is a free phaser VST plugin developed by Synthescience. Compatible OS(s): Windows.

The Phaser Box plugin from Synthescience is built around a series of Low and High pass filters in cascade to imprint that notched “phasey” sound.

This approach although somewhat different from the classic “All pass” filter design delivers a recognizable phase shifter sound.

Complementing that we’ve included some features such as a selection of five different waveforms (Sine, Triangular, Saw, Square and Random) being the first two (Sine and Triangular) the most used in traditional phaser units for that smooth modulated sound, and the remaining three (Saw, Square, and Random) more suited if one wishes to impart that “Rhythmical” feel to into the modulated tones, a “Wave invert” and a Phase adjust knob are also included (contributing to a stereo spread feel).

The Phaser Box is fully automatable and has the ability to store 32 presets. It ships with a few already pre programmed ones that will show what its all about and may be
the starting point to your individual creations.

Installation procedure: Unzip the file, then copy the DLLs into your VstPlugins folder.

The Phaser 2/8 plugin is built around the classic “All Pass” filter design with selectable phaser stages between 2 to 8.

Phase90

ZynAddSubFX free software-synthesizer by paulnasca 2

Phase90 is a free overdrive and saturation VST plugin developed by Smart Electronix. Compatible OS(s): Windows.

by Antti of Smart Electronix

Phase90 is recreation of classic guitar pedal MXR Phase90.

NOTE: This is a proof-of-concept project to see how modeling the distortion of FET-based phasers affects sound, so don’t expect loads of fancy parameters.

NOTE: Phase90 uses the hosts’s default GUI.

Phase-Warper

Phase-Warper free software-synthesizer by DocNashSynths

Phase-Warper is a free software synthesizer developed by DocNashSynths. Available format(s): for Windows .

Phase-Warper features a sound production method called ‘Vector Phase Synthesis’, which distorts the phase of a sine wave by a 2-dimensional vector. As the co-ordinates of the bending point of the vector are varied, a wide range of wave shapes are produced, including ‘formants’ centred around harmonics of the fundamental frequency, creating human voice-like effects.

You can see from the screenshot that unlike traditional subtractive synths, there are no wave shape selectors or filters here, as the technique doesn’t require them.

Phase-Warper can be considered a ‘method showcase’ product as it introduces a novel synthesis technique via a functioning product, so as to bring it to the attention of other developers who may then choose to evolve and incorporate it into their existing or future products.

Of course Phase-Warper is useable as-is, as a stand-alone, unrestricted real time synth for producing a variety of new sounds and textures, just lacking in ‘trimmings’ like the ability to save and load patches.

Phase Seq

Phase Seq free midi-controller by xoxos

Phase Seq is a free midi controller VST plugin developed by xoxos. Compatible OS(s): Windows.

Phase Seq easily generates unquantised looping MIDI sequences that are more difficult to achieve in some hosts. Up to eight events are triggered at manually set phase positions and three columns of sliders are dedicated to modulating the position of each trigger by the LFOs.

The immediate application would be for loose timing variation, or special effect sequences, like speeding up or slowing down, or for sequences with erratic timing. Some more subtle timing effects are possible, e.g. by scaling the effect of an LFO on each step (as pictured on the screenshot) the LFO will stretch and condense the beginning of the sequence elastically. LFOs may be synced to different host rates to create complex repeating patterns.

Phase Seq is designed to run lightly on CPU to accommodate the use of multiple instances.
