TDR Kotelnikov

ZynAddSubFX free software-synthesizer by paulnasca 2

TDR Kotelnikov is a free compressor VST, Audio Unit, AAX plugin developed by Tokyo Dawn Labs. Compatible OS(s): Windows, macOS.

TDR Kotelnikov is a wideband dynamics processor combining high fidelity dynamic range control with deep musical flexibility. As a descendant of the venerable TDR Feedback Compressor product family, Kotelnikov has directly inherited several unique features such as a proven control scheme, individual release control for peak and RMS content, an intuitive user interface, and powerful, state of the art, high-precision algorithms.

With a sonic signature best described as “stealthy”, Kotelnikov has the ability to manipulate the dynamic range by dramatic amounts, while carefully preserving the original tone, timbre and punch of a musical signal. As such, it is perfectly suited to stereo bus compression as well as other critical applications.

Kotelnikov does not try to emulate any previously available device. The concept is a proud digital processor, it is the original.

Notable features:

  • 64-bit floating point precision for all relevant calculations.
  • Multi-rate processing structure for highest accuracy.
  • “Delta” oversampled signal path (bit transparent at 0dB gain reduction).
  • Super fast, yet natural sounding compression.
  • Control scheme based on “Crest factor”, offering independent release controls for peak and RMS events.
  • Flexible sidechain highpass filter.
  • Advanced stereo linking options optimized for the stereo bus.
  • Delta preview mode to preview the difference between compressed and original signal.
  • Latency compensated bypass (processing doesn’t interrupt).
  • Extensive documentation.

The standard edition is available for free, the improved Gentleman’s Edition can be purchased directly from Tokyo Dawn.

TDR Nova

TDR Nova free eq by Tokyo Dawn Labs

TDR Nova is a free equalizer VST, Audio Unit, AAX plugin developed by Tokyo Dawn Labs. Compatible OS(s): Windows, macOS.

TDR NOVA is a parallel dynamic equalizer. Appearing in the familiar layout of a parametric equalizer, each band also includes a full featured dynamics section allowing the processor to cover an impressively wide range of applications. Be it a master lacking density, the drum bus asking for more crispiness, or a sibilance problem in your perfect take: NOVA has an elegant answer.

A user friendly WYSIWYG drag and drop display paired with a classic “knob” interface gives quick and smooth access to the various parameters driving NOVA’s powerful processing capabilities. With its four dynamic EQ bands and additional high-pass and low-pass filter sections, NOVA can meet the most exotic demand. Intuitive equal loudness functions help finding the optimal setting without getting distracted by loudness differences.

In practice, the processor covers a whole bucket of tasks:

  • Parametric equalization.
  • Dynamic equalization.
  • Frequency selective compression.
  • Multi-band compression.
  • Wideband compression.

Of course NOVA features all helpers and work-flow enhancements you’ve come to expect in a TDR plugin: A preset manager, undo/redo, A/B, detailed documentation, copy & paste, and much more.

TDR Nova is free. The improved “Gentleman’s Edition” is available here.

TDR Feedback Compressor

TDR Feedback Compressor free compressor by Tokyo Dawn Labs

TDR Feedback Compressor is a free compressor VST plugin developed by Tokyo Dawn Labs. Compatible OS(s): Windows.

Important: Version II is now available!

A carefully designed RMS-based dynamic range compressor. The processor is dedicated to sum/bus compression and is the result of an intensive study about the musical behaviour of “classic” feed-back compressor designs. Most modern compressors analyze the input signal to control gain reduction. The feed-back compressor design however “listens” to its output. This non-intuitive approach delivers an unobtrusive and highly musical compression characteristic that is able to handle complex signals with ease.

We want to emphasize the fact that the processor neither tries to emulate any previously available device, nor does it follow popular trends like “virtual analogue”, “vintage” or similar buzz terms. This is a proud digital processor, made an immense amount of love and care.

Notable features:

  • Typical “Feed-Back Compression” musicality and behavior.
  • All relevant calculations are done at 64-bit precision.
  • Differential oversampling structure (only the “wet” part is oversampled).
  • Re-sampling via high quality linear phase filters.
  • Advanced stereo-linking (reduces audible cross-modulation).
  • Adaptive integration time RMS detector. Optional PEAK and adjustable RMS detection.
  • Freely adjustable compression knee.
  • Upward compression mode.
  • Optional 6dB/oct and 3dB oct HP side-chain filters.
  • Optional low and high frequency harmonic distortion.
  • Independent release controls for fast and slow program material.
  • Delta preview mode. Allows to preview the difference between compressed and original signal.
  • Latency compensated parallel bypass (i.e. processing not interrupted).
