L3V3LL3R is a free compressor VST plugin developed by platinumears. Compatible OS(s): Windows.

L3V3LL3R is a faithful model of the legendary “Leveller” hardware compressor from the ’60s. These units are extremely rare and collectable due to the fact that less than one of them was ever made and sold. On the plus side, this did make it possible for platinumears to collect together ALL surviving examples, and thereby create a modelled VST version that is actually more like the original units than the original units were themselves.

The compressor uses an algorithm which is somewhere between feed-forward and feed-backward and which platinumears has therefore dubbed “feed sideways”. It can be gentle and subtle if you want it to be. But its more fun when you slam it hard, especially on drums.

KTDrumTrigger

KTDrumTrigger is a VST plugin with a custom editor that triggers MIDI notes based on the sound level of the incoming audio stream in different frequency bands. It allows you to “detect” occurrences of percussive sounds in an audio stream and send out a MIDI event whenever that happens.

Incoming (mono) audio is split up into different frequency bands using three tweakable filters. The signal in each of these bands is sent through an envelope follower. When the envelope reaches a specified threshold level, a MIDI note on message is generated. The trigger module has some built-in hysteresis and minimum inter onset time settings to avoid fast successive triggers due to noise on the envelope curves. Visual feedback of the filter and trigger settings is available.

Kruud is a synthesizer with a drawable low resolution Oscillator. The main Osc has 5 basic waveforms, Pink and white Noise and a drawable user waveform. The waveforms have different modes like Phase Mod, PWM (Square only) and a special morph mode (listed as PWM in the synth) for all but the square wave. The user waveform can mix or morph between two waveforms or do PWM on waveform A.

KRT free plugin collection

KRT free plugin collection is a free multi fx VST plugin developed by K Ring Technologies. Compatible OS(s): Windows.

A few free VST effects (and possibly instruments), only time will tell. Some maybe alpha or beta quality, as early feedback is important. Any long term stability in design will be signified by a 64-bit release. Windows is the development platform.

Seven plugins are working and have been tested in ACID Music Studio 10. They are varied in what they do, and they are not “regular” in the sense of obvious studio tools. My favourite is Lootie the wave folder.
