Bark of Dog

Bark of Dog free eq by Boz Digital Labs

Bark of Dog is a free equalizer VST, VST3, Audio Unit, RTAS, AAX plugin developed by Boz Digital Labs. Compatible OS(s): Windows 64b, macOS.

Bark of Dog is a bass resonance filter that lets you increase your low end without turning up the flab. I like to think of it as a way to boost the low end while still keeping it under control. While the controls are super simple, the effect that this has on controlling the low end in a mix is pretty exciting.

Is this just a resonant high pass filter?

Yes, it is.

Why create a dedicated plugin for a tool we all already have?

Great question. Truthfully, what you get here can be accomplished with pretty much any digital EQ plugin. The reason why I made a dedicated plugin for this is because even though I had the capability to put a resonant high pass filter on my tracks for the past 15 years using my stock EQ, the thought never occurred to me to try it. I read reviews on a certain plugin that claimed to enhance the low end with a resonant high pass filter, and everybody who tried it seemed to love it. Rather than spending loads of money on a big dongle and then more money on a plugin, I decided just to make my own.

Even though it is super simple, I think it lived up to it’s hype. I love this tool. It solved all my low end problems. Because this is a feature we all already have, I didn’t feel right about charging money for it. There are enough good new ideas to do that I don’t want to fall into the trap of repackaging old tricks. Think of this as more of a really helpful tip with a plugin to go along with it. If you don’t want to download this plugin, then at least open up your stock EQ and play with the resonance on your high pass filter. It made my life a lot easier, and I think it can make yours easier too.

Automathico

Automathico free studio-tool by SirSickSik

Automathico is a free studio tools VST plugin developed by SirSickSik. Compatible OS(s): Windows 64b.

The Automathico is a MIDI note generator based on looped mathematical calculations.

It’s mainly build up from 3 parts:

A fairly small knob-automation recorder which lets you internally automate knob adjustments, a bit bigger part is saved for the rhythmic section and the main part of the display is saved for knobs and selectors for the 6 (almost) identical sequencers.

Two sequencers are for the main base (stable en-harmonic and chord (offset from en-harmonic scaled into the right scale and key).

The other four are for two separate sequencers for both pitch and velocity, so two different patterns can be created together following the same structure (enharmonics and chords).

These 6 sequencers are based on a sample&hold loop in which a series of mathematical calculations are put over the looping values. First a waveshaper, then a parabolic function and finally a math-algorithm like sine, tanh, power, square root. The sequencers all have their own clock-divider and sync-option to enforce recurring patterns and next to this the pitch and velocity sequencers have an extra feed option which allows to feed a value of another sequencer into it’s loop via modulating math-functions. As last there is a dedicated LFO for each of the 6 sequencers to modulate one of the parameters, which, in different combinations can yield very interesting results as patterns evolve.

The rhythmic and melodic sections work together to assign the current pitch and velocity values to the note generators in arp-mode. When the switch is down, depending on whether the pitch-sequencer is playing between 0-25%, 25-50%, 50-75% or 75-100%, the most right, middle-left, middle-right, most right midi-note generators respectively will be triggered. As each of these can send on a different MIDI channel, each keyboard-range can be played by a different external synthesizer or sampler (VSTi or hardware).

Together this creates a very dynamic sequencer which can change the mood and rhythm with a single turn of a knob (if you turn the right knob for that of course).

You can use it to control both VSTi or hardware synthesizers or samplers (depending on the MIDI-routing capabilities of your MIDIhost, Cubase and Fruity Loops are for example known to do the job).

For more information, explanation, help and tips&tricks, download the zip and check the help-file.

Next to that, just have fun with it! My pleasure is making music and if I can share that pleasure, I am happy.

(P.S. Below in the comments there is a link to a 16-VST pack with my latest plugins, two which I made to combine with automathico to be able to easier route MIDI channels to different VSTi. The rest I added as these were too big to go directly to my free-VST thread and I wanted these be uploaded anyway)

Audimat

Audimat free host by Transonic

Audimat is a free host application developed by Transonic. Compatible OS(s): Windows 64b.

Inspired by the Automat – a famous self-service eatery in New York City where diners could choose from a variety of dishes available from a rack of vending machines – Audimat is a VST host in which you can load up a rack with your plugins for a variety of sounds. To edit a VST’s parameters, you can either display the VST’s own editor, or use Audimat’s default editor. Switch between the VST’s programs using the selector on its rack panel. Either send MIDI data from an external MIDI controller or use the on-screen keyboard.

Save the current configuration of plugins you have loaded into the rack (a “rig”) to a file so that you can easily reload all of them later. For a given rig, you can also save the current programs of the individual plugins as a patch, so that you can switch between patches without having to set each plugin’s program separately every time.

The above screen shot shows four VSTs loaded into the Audimat rack on the left, with the editor of the Acolyte plugin displayed on the top right, with the on-screen keyboard below it.

For the Windows platform; you need to have .NET 4.0 installed to run it. The user interface is written in C# (Audimat.exe) and the engine is written in C++ (VaShTi.dll). As with all Transonic software, this is open source.
