Toned

Toned free eq by LVC-Audio

Toned is a free equalizer VST, VST3, Audio Unit, RTAS, AAX plugin developed by LVC-Audio. Compatible OS(s): Windows 64b, macOS.

Toned is a specialized tone shaping plugin with analog modeling. It is designed primarily for use in the mastering process or on two-track audio busses. Toned uses two distinct equalization processes: a three-band tone-shaping matrix, and a specially designed high pass (HP) filter.

The three-band tone-shaping matrix uses a crossover-style filter bank of first-order filters (-6dB per octave). This type of equalization produces very gentle and broad filtering, with minimal alteration of phase. Very wide boosts and cuts can be accomplished while still sounding natural. This style of equalization also mimics some of the interactions between frequency bands that are commonly found in passive analog EQs and analog tone controls. The tone-shaping matrix can be applied to stereo channels, or specifically to the mid or side channel. Additionally, Toned can be switched to use a two-band matrix.

The HP filter is specifically designed for accurately adjusting the low/sub bass energy. The filter has selectable Q and roll-off. The scale of the HP controls is specific to low bass, and ranges from 10 Hz to 50 Hz (with accuracy to 0.01 Hz). Just like the tone controls, the HP filter can be applied to the stereo channels, or specifically target the mid or side channel.

In addition to all of the tone and HP filter controls, Toned also includes an analog modeling engine to simulate the sound of hardware devices. The Toned analog sound consists of numerous parameters to simulate the unique frequency characteristics, saturation, self-noise, and other nuances of high-quality analog equipment. There is also a feedback control to simulate the effect of using negative feedback within an analog amplifier path.

Toned also includes many standard LVC-Audio features. This includes:

  • Delay and phase compensated mix control.
  • Adjustable input and output metering with peak and loudness meters.
  • Internal 64-bit precision with 2x fixed oversampling rate.
  • Knob controllers with fine- and superfine- control, and built-in A-B comparison.

System Requirements and Specifications:

  • Windows: VST, VST3, RTAS, and AAX plugin formats. Toned requires Windows XP SP 3 or newer with a processor that supports SSE2 (AMD or Intel processor from around 2004 or later). An iLok device is required to use the AAX format.
  • OS X: AU, VST, VST3, RTAS, and AAX plugin formats. Toned requires OS X 10.5 or later, and an Intel processor. An iLok device is required to use the AAX format.

The Anvil

The Anvil free amp-simulator by Ignite Amps

The Anvil is a free amp simulator VST, VST3, Audio Unit plugin developed by Ignite Amps. Compatible OS(s): Windows 64b, macOS.

The Anvil is a digital emulation of a three channels tube preamplifier for guitar. It has been developed to accurately model its real hardware counterpart, designed by Andy Zeugs.

The Anvil has three completely independent channels, with different signal paths and separate tonestack controls, to maximize its versatility:

  1. The Clean channel is inspired by the classic Californian circuits and provides crystal clear tones even at high gain settings.
  2. The Rhythm channel has a hot-rodded British character, varying from mild crunch to hi-gain distortion.
  3. The Lead channel provides super-tight metal tones, retaining accuracy and responsiveness even at very high gain settings.

Every single component in the signal path of the real analog circuit has been taken into account and modeled in the best possible way to match the original sound, keeping an eye on CPU performance and real-time playability at the same time.

The Anvil is meant to be used as a guitar preamplifier for live playing and jamming, tracking or mixing inside hosts capable of VST, VST3 or AU plug-ins support.

Main Features:

  • Ignite Amps 3rd generation triode modeling engine.
  • Three channels: clean, rhythm and lead, each with fully separated controls.
  • Mono / Stereo processing support.
  • Selectable oversampling rate (up to 8x).
  • Global input / output level controls.
  • Double precision (64-bit) floating point mathematical model.
  • Fully automatable controls.
  • Ignite Amps proprietary preset management system with bank file import/export functions.

TDR VOS SlickEQ

TDR VOS SlickEQ free eq by Tokyo Dawn Labs

TDR VOS SlickEQ is a free equalizer VST, VST3, Audio Unit, AAX plugin developed by Tokyo Dawn Labs. Compatible OS(s): Windows 64b, macOS.

TDR VOS SlickEQ is a mixing/mastering equalizer designed for ease of use, musical flexibility and impeccable sound.

Three (and a half) filter-bands arranged in a classic Low/Mid/High semi parametric layout offer fast and intuitive access to four distinct EQ modes, each representing a set of distinct EQ curves and behaviors. An elaborate auto gain option automatically compensates for changes of perceived-loudness during EQ operation. Optionally, SlickEQ allows to exclusively process either the stereo sum or stereo difference (i.e. “stereo width”) without additional sum/difference encoding.

In order to warm up the material with additional harmonic content, SlickEQ offers a switchable EQ non-linearity and an output stage with 3 different saturation models. These options are meant to offer subtle and interesting textures, rather than obvious distortion. The effect is made to add the typical “mojo” often associated with classy audio gear.

An advanced 64-bit multirate processing scheme practically eliminates typical problems of digital EQ implementations such as frequency-warping, quantization distortion and aliasing.

Beside the primary controls, the plug-in comes with an array of additional helpers: Advanced preset management, undo/redo, quick A/B comparison, copy & paste, an online help, editable labels, mouse-wheel support and much more.

SlickEQ is a collaborative project by Variety of Sound (Herbert Goldberg) and Tokyo Dawn Labs (Vladislav Goncharov and Fabien Schivre).

Key specs and features:

  • Intuitive, yet flexible semi parametric EQ layout.
  • Full featured, modern user interface with outstanding usability and ergonomics.
  • Carefully designed 64-bit “delta” multi-rate structure.
  • Three EQ bands with additional 18dB/Oct high-pass filter.
  • Four distinct EQ models: “American”, “British”, “German” and “Soviet” with optional non-linearity.
  • Four output stages: “Linear”, “Silky”, “Mellow” and “Deep”.
  • Advanced saturation algorithms by VoS (“stateful saturation”).
  • Highly effective and musically pleasing loudness compensated auto gain control.
  • Oversampled signal path including stateful saturation algorithms.
  • Stereo and sum/difference processing options.
  • Tool-bar with undo/redo, A/B, advanced preset management and more.
