ClipShifter 2

ClipShifter 2 free limiter | clipper by LVC-Audio

ClipShifter 2 is a free limiter and clipper VST, VST3, Audio Unit, RTAS, AAX plugin developed by LVC-Audio. Compatible OS(s): Windows 64b, macOS.

ClipShifter is a wave-shaping clipping-style limiter that provides enough user controls to be useful in all mixing stages. ClipShifter uses a unique threshold control to change the clipping threshold dynamically based on the transient characteristics of the incoming audio. The sonic characteristics of the clipping distortion can be altered from hard, brickwall-style clipping, to softer saturation with compression. Additional parameters allow the user to control the even- and odd-order components of the saturation.

ClipShifter is released as a free and paid plugin. The paid plugin adds oversampling (2, 4, and 8 times) with selectable double processing, mid/side processing, and a 3-way multiband frequency control. The multiband frequency control can be used to apply clipping to certain frequency bands independently, while the free version applies the audio clipping to the entire frequency spectrum.

Major features

Plugin Features::

  • Clipping style limiter: from transparent sounding compression to hard clipping distortion.
  • Initial and End thresholds controls that can dynamically change the clipping level based on the incoming signal.
  • Controls for Clip Shape (hard to soft) and harmonics (even- and odd-order).
  • Visual display of signals using VU-style, PPM-style, and loudness/RMS meters to monitor input and output levels.
  • Scalable waveform history view with click-and-drag editing of clipping thresholds.

Paid Features::

  • Multiband EQ controls: 3-band EQ crossover, with independent processing of each band through the clipping algorithm.
  • Oversamping: 2X, 4X, and 8X internal oversampling to reduce aliasing.
  • Double processing: additional option to process audio an additional time through the clipping algorithm when oversampling is engaged.
  • Mid/Side processing: Selectable control for processing Mid/Side signals independently.

System Requirements and Specifications:

  • Windows: VST, VST3, RTAS, and AAX plugin formats. Limited-MAX requires Windows XP SP 3 or newer with a processor that supports SSE2 (AMD or Intel processor from around 2004 or later). An iLok device is required to use the AAX format.
  • OS X: AU, VST, VST3, RTAS, and AAX plugin formats. Limited-MAX requires OS X 10.5 or later, and an Intel processor. An iLok device is required to use the AAX format.

ClipShifter can be purchased for $24.95 USD. For more information or to download the free/demo version, visit LVC-Audio.

bx_solo

bx_solo free stereo-imaging by Brainworx

bx_solo is a free stereo imaging VST, VST3, Audio Unit, RTAS plugin developed by Brainworx. Compatible OS(s): Windows 64b, macOS.

bx_solo is a tool that Brainworx designed to get you started with, and used to, the way they approach the M/S technique – be it for recording-, mixing- or mastering purposes. The “heart” of their M/S tools are the Solo Buttons that allow you to actually listen to all components of a stereo mix / stereo signal individually:

L(left channel), R(ight channel), M(ono sum) & S(tereo difference signal) – all phase corrected (when needed) and mono-ed out on both speakers of your system. This is helpful when working in M/S modes and to check your signals / mixes for errors, noises, clicks, whatever…

bx_solo also contains a stepped M/S stereo width control, so you can get an impression about what you can actually do with it.

British Valve Custom (BVC)

British Valve Custom (BVC) free overdrive | saturation by Studio Devil

British Valve Custom (BVC) is a free overdrive and saturation VST, Audio Unit, RTAS plugin developed by Studio Devil. Compatible OS(s): Windows, macOS.

Studio Devil BVC (British Valve Custom) is a guitar tube amplifier modeling plug-in that is designed to mimic the character of “British”-style vacuum tube heads. This virtual tube amplifier processor is based on authentic models of 12AX7A vacuum tube preamps and tube power stages. While primarily intended for guitar amp modeling and direct recording of both electric guitar and bass, Studio Devil BVC excels wherever natural tube overdrive and distortion is needed.

British Valve Custom features the basic controls of a guitar amp: GAIN, TONE, and DRIVE. It is based on the gain structure of popular British Valve (Tube) heads like those made by Marshall with some subtle modifications to give it slightly more gain. The dynamic response and tone is faithful to those from real vacuum tube amps and reacts to your playing style just like the real thing.

Features:

  • Accurate 12AX7A vacuum tube preamplifier stage emulation with DRIVE control.
  • Gain structure signal path that’s true to those on vintage tube amp schematics.
  • Authentic Bass, Mids, Treble, and Presence TONE controls just like those on real tube amps.
  • Push-pull tube power amplifier model with DRIVE control.
  • FIR-based speaker/cabinet/mic modeling filter built in for a “miked-up” tone.
  • 4X Up-Sampling Engine with 64-bit Internal Floating-Point Precision.
  • 44.1kHz, 48kHz, 88.2kHz, 96kHz, 176.4kHz, and 196kHz sampling rate support.

Brainworx bx_solo

Brainworx bx_solo free stereo-imaging | signal-monitoring by Plugin Alliance

Brainworx bx_solo is a free stereo imaging and signal monitoring VST, VST3, Audio Unit, RTAS, AAX plugin developed by Plugin Alliance. Compatible OS(s): Windows 64b, macOS.

M & S solo knobs. free! Just grab it.

bx_solo is a nice little tool that we have designed to get you started with and used to the way we approach the M/S technique – be it for recording-, mixing- or mastering purposes.

Description

L (LEFT channel), R (RIGHT channel), M (MONO sum, mid signal) & S (STEREO-Difference, side signal) – and all this phase-corrected (when needed) and mono-ed out on both speakers of your system. This is very helpful when working in M/S modes (because especially listening to only the S-signal of a stereo mix is not so easy to do with modern DAW stations) and to check your signals / mixes for errors, noises, clicks, whatever…

bx_solo also contains a stepped M/S Stereo Width Control, so you can get an impression about what you can actually do with it. Do try it out on subgroups (makes rock guitar subgroups jump out of your speakers at about 150%!), FX returns, keyboards / samplers, etc.

Using the Stereo Width Control too heavily may lead to phase problems. bx_control & bx_digital both have the Mono Maker on board – this tool will be able to get rid off these phase problems with its unique way of mono-ing out your stereo signals / mixes only in the bass frequencies – Mono Maker is the solution – unless you really over-do the settings…

To be able to fine-adjust the Stereo Width Control (and use Mono Maker at the same time for best results!) please try bx_control.

Features:

  • Fully automatable.
  • “Mouse Over” feature: adjust the parameters by holding the mouse over any knob and simply turn your mouse wheel.
  • Direct access: just type in any valid number into the text fields for direct access to the exact value.

Brainworx bx_cleansweep V2 free filter by Plugin Alliance

Brainworx bx_cleansweep V2 is a free filter VST, VST3, Audio Unit, RTAS, AAX plugin developed by Plugin Alliance. Compatible OS(s): Windows 64b, macOS.

FREE!

bx_cleansweep is a new Hi-Pass and Lo-Pass filter plug-in, introducing the new “Anti Crush Technology” (originally developed by Brainworx).

Analog style filter curves without the typical Nyquist problems, in a new great sounding filter design (taken from our pro mastering EQ bx_digital V2). First order filters (6 dB per octave) guarantee an extremely musically sounding filter set, and unique joystick control (taken from bx_hybrid) gives you fast and intuitive control.

Description

bx_cleansweep is the plugin that should go into every mix channel as the first plugin. This way you can filter out any unwanted hi-end and lo-end, and the result is a clean and tight mix.

Ever thought about why there are Hi-Pass and Lo-Pass filter in every channel of the most expensive analog consoles (SSL, NEVE, etc.), but why most EQs are missing this feature?

Clever shortcuts (Alt/Shift/Ctrl) allow for detailed control over the X-axis and Y-axis of the joystick, and the EQ knobs can be set to precision mode by shift-click as well.

Features:

  • BRAINWORX’ critically acclaimed filter.
  • Fully automatable.
  • Dedicated BYPASS switch in the plug-in GUI.
  • “Mouse Over” feature: adjust the parameters by holding the mouse over any knob and simply turn your mouse wheel.

Bark of Dog

Bark of Dog free eq by Boz Digital Labs

Bark of Dog is a free equalizer VST, VST3, Audio Unit, RTAS, AAX plugin developed by Boz Digital Labs. Compatible OS(s): Windows 64b, macOS.

Bark of Dog is a bass resonance filter that lets you increase your low end without turning up the flab. I like to think of it as a way to boost the low end while still keeping it under control. While the controls are super simple, the effect that this has on controlling the low end in a mix is pretty exciting.

Is this just a resonant high pass filter?

Yes, it is.

Why create a dedicated plugin for a tool we all already have?

Great question. Truthfully, what you get here can be accomplished with pretty much any digital EQ plugin. The reason why I made a dedicated plugin for this is because even though I had the capability to put a resonant high pass filter on my tracks for the past 15 years using my stock EQ, the thought never occurred to me to try it. I read reviews on a certain plugin that claimed to enhance the low end with a resonant high pass filter, and everybody who tried it seemed to love it. Rather than spending loads of money on a big dongle and then more money on a plugin, I decided just to make my own.

Even though it is super simple, I think it lived up to it’s hype. I love this tool. It solved all my low end problems. Because this is a feature we all already have, I didn’t feel right about charging money for it. There are enough good new ideas to do that I don’t want to fall into the trap of repackaging old tricks. Think of this as more of a really helpful tip with a plugin to go along with it. If you don’t want to download this plugin, then at least open up your stock EQ and play with the resonance on your high pass filter. It made my life a lot easier, and I think it can make yours easier too.
