Delay

Delay free delay by kiloHearts

Delay is a free delay VST, Audio Unit, AAX plugin developed by kiloHearts. Compatible OS(s): Windows 64b, macOS.

Delay can be run both free running and tempo synced with various stereo and feedback options. Most notable however is the duck feature, which optionally only lets the echoed sound through when there is no dry input signal. This allows for long and heavy delay while still avoiding clutter over the original sound:

  • Delay display – The amount of time beore the delayed sound starts playing. This will be expressed in milliseconds or as parts of a beat, depending on Sync Mode.
  • Sync Mode – When sync is enabled the delay time will be synchronized to the song tempo.
  • Feedback knob – The feedback setting will cause the delayed sound to feed back into the delay. This will create an exponentially decaying echo.
  • Pan knob – Adjust the panning of the delayed sound.
  • Ping-Pong – Swaps the left and the right channel of the delayed sound when it is fed back into the delay. When combined with panning this will make the echo bounce back and forth between the speakers.
  • Duck knob – When duck is turned up, the output volume from the delay will automatically be lowered when the input volume is high.
  • Mix knob – The dry/wet mix of this effect. A lower value will let some of the unmodified signal through.
  • Settings panel – Whenever you have your mouse cursor over a snapin theree is a small arrow at the top right corner (not visible in screenshot). It opens a settings panel where you handle presets.
  • Enabled checkbox – The small checkbox to the left of the plugin name is a checkbox that bypasses the effect when disabled.
  • Resize handle – The bottom right corner of all Kilohearts plugins is a resize handle for scaling the UI to any size. This allows you to get a good view of the controls whatever the screen resolution, and also comes in handy if you need big controls, e.g. when using Delay as a real-time effect on a touchscreen monitor during a live set. (This is not available when the snapin is used inside a snapin host.).

Delay shines on it’s own, but it was primarily created to power up the different “Snapin Hosts” Kilohearts offer. These are bigger effects units that utilize all the available snapins and give you a really fun and creative workflow for combining them in any way you can think of. So have a look at Snap Heap and Multipass right now.

Delay is also available as a Rack Extension for Reason over at the Propellerhead shop.

Delay Bundle

Delay Bundle free delay | echo by Soundhack

Delay Bundle is a free delay and echo VST, VST3, Audio Unit, AAX plugin developed by Soundhack. Compatible OS(s): Windows 64b, macOS.

The Delay Bundle / Delay Kit is a collection of plugins that Tom Erbe (SoundHack) developed as class demonstrations while teaching computer music and studio technique at UC San Diego. All of these are derived from the same basic delay algorithm: a hermite interpolated delay line with variable modulation, and a feedback loop with dc blocking and saturation. Pitch shifting is achieved with a dual head crossfading delay (ala Eltro Tempophon/Dennis Gabor/Pierre Schaeffer phonogene) and is decidedly low-? The saturating feedback also allows them to be great drone and noise generators.

The plugins are:

  • ++flipper – synchronized reverse delay.
  • ++bubbler – a flexible and MIDI playable granular delay.
  • ++pitchdelay – old school multitap delay-based pitch-shifting.
  • ++delay – a fully featured 10 second delay, with extensive modulation and feedback filtering.

DC1A

DC1A free compressor by Klanghelm

DC1A is a free compressor VST, VST3, Audio Unit, AAX plugin developed by Klanghelm. Compatible OS(s): Windows 64b, macOS.

DC1A is the little brother of Klanghelm’s upcoming compression monster DC8C. I’ve taken one of my favorite settings from DC8C and tried to make it work in a two control context. Soundwise it’s comparable to the PUNCH mode in DC8C.

I’ve always wanted to do a compressor with just an input and output knob, a compressor that just works: gentle, grateful, from almost invisible, smooth leveling to heavy pumping with a nice crunchy saturation and punchy enough to treat drums with.

DC1A looks like a one trick pony. But don’t get fooled by lack of further controls. You may be surprised, on how many different material this little thing works. DC1A is heavily program dependent.

Couture

Couture free saturation by Auburn Sounds

Couture is a free saturation VST, VST3, Audio Unit, AAX, LV2 plugin developed by Auburn Sounds. Compatible OS(s): Windows 64b, macOS.

Couture gives you control over your dynamics, and particularly attacks.

Raw Efficiency. Increase or decrease dynamics. Get a usable result, now.

Laser-sharp. Couture’s 2-bands, half-spectral, RMS, program-dependent detector finds each and every transient. No internal thresholds.

Couture is very versatile:

  • Make individual drum tracks a lot more dynamic and punchy
  • Remove the “click” out of a kick drum sample
  • Make a whole bus more or less dynamic in a single click
  • Give glue to a mix with light compression and saturation.
  • Use a subtle saturation that preserve dynamics.
  • Deess the very start of notes for vocals.
  • Give life to inane lead synths.

Correlometer

Correlometer free correlation-meter by Voxengo

Correlometer is a free correlation meter VST, VST3, Audio Unit, AAX plugin developed by Voxengo. Compatible OS(s): Windows 64b, macOS.

Correlometer is an analog-style stereo multi-band correlation meter plug-in based on the correlation meter found in the PHA-979 phase-alignment plugin.

Multi-band correlation meter is an advanced way to check for presence of out-of-phase elements in the mix. Broadband correlation metering reports overall phase issues and may misrepresent problems present in select spectral bands, while multi-band correlation meter easily highlights problems present in mid to high frequencies that are not easily heard by ear, but may still reduce clarity of the mix. Another application of multi-band correlation metering is phase- and time-aligning of channels and tracks, especially bass and bass-drum pairs, guitar mic and D.I. source pairs, two-microphone stereo recordings, etc.

Correlometer can display 4 to 64 individual spectral bands, with adjustable band quality factor that controls the degree of band’s selectivity. Averaging time of correlation estimator can be adjusted. Correlometer supports side-chain inputs for easy correlation estimation between separate audio tracks.

Correlometer features:

  • 4 to 64 band correlation meter.
  • Adjustable band quality factor.
  • Adjustable averaging time.
  • Side-chain input.
  • Resizable user interface.
  • All sample rates support.
  • Zero processing latency.
  • User interface color schemes.
  • Retina and HighDPI support.
