Boids

Boids free eq by ToneCarver

Boids is a free equalizer VST plugin developed by ToneCarver. Compatible OS(s): Windows.

The Boids plugin is a hybrid Granular + Delay plugin that features a 2D “Boid” swarm as a set of modulators for the grain and delay parameters. This plugin grew out of an interest to accomplish two different goals:

  1. Finding a way to manage grain swarms visually.
  2. Creating delay-based ambiance that has subtle, not quite random, variations.

The Boid Swarm represents a set of flocking boids (a boid is a “Bird Android” – see Craig Reynolds work: www.red3d.com/boids). There are a few simple rules that each boid uses to determine where it will fly to on the next swarm advance. These include rules for how fast to fly, how near to fly to other boids, how strongly to move to the center of the flock, how strongly to follow a leader boid, and how strongly to match the position and direction of nearby boids.

The swarm space that the boids fly in is treated as a 2D coordinate system where the X (horizontal) and Y (vertical) position of each boid can be used to modulate controls. A swarm may contain up to 200 boids.

The plugin supports multiple grain streams and multiple delay taps (up to 200 each). Each grain stream and delay tap is associated with one of the boids in the swarm. The X position, Y position, Radius position and ID number of that boid associated with the grain stream or tap can be assigned to modulate the controls that define how that specific grain or tap will be produced.

For example, the X position of a boid can be assigned to control the pan value for the delay taps. For each delay tap, the X position of the boid associated with that delay tap will determine its pan position in the output stereo field. Different taps will have different pan values depending on the location of the boid associated with the tap. In this configuration delay tap signals will move through stereo positions as the boids move through the swarm space.

Each of the parameters for the grain streams and delay taps can be modulated using the position of the boid associated with the grain/tap (and/or traditional LFO modulators).

Bipro

Bipro free eq | filter by Noisebud

Bipro is a free eq and filter VST plugin developed by Noisebud. Compatible OS(s): Windows.

Bipro – The Low end fix unicorn magic thing…. Nah, it’s a low-end controller.

Bipro is a plugin with different tools to control the very low end, that is below 50Hz. It’s very common that mixes made with small speakers (6″ and even 8″ inch speakers) have problems in the low end simply because they’re not able to reproduce what’s going on down there. When you try to push a mix like that to compete with commercial levels it will start to sound bad and misbehave in all kind of ways. You can hear and see one example what can happen and how to use Bipro to fix that in the demonstration video below.

New in v2.0:

  • Added Attack and Release to the dynamic section.
  • Added another filter method to the dynamic section.
  • Added LED indicators to give a fast visual if you actually attenuate or boost the low end.
  • A new setting that apply a common mastering EQ technique to unmask content below 50Hz and give a feeling of more bass even though it’s less (use with care).

Binvert

ZynAddSubFX free software-synthesizer by paulnasca 2

Binvert is a free eq and enhancer VST plugin developed by Noisebud. Compatible OS(s): Windows.

Binvert was originally meant to be a plain mix tool to handle phase problems when mixing several bass heavy channels, but the users seemed to use it mainly to deepen or sculpt the low end. Development have therefore been focused on the usability as a bass sculpturing tool even though the original functionality is still there.

The result is a versatile tool that you can use either as originally intended, extreme bass drum sounds or for a subtle boost in the low end while mastering.

Binvert takes the signal and splits in into two bands (split point is adjustable between 25-440Hz). After the split there’s a phase invert for both bands so you can invert the polarity of the two bands independently from each other. Problem fixed, the bass is still heavy and the mid/high transients stay crisp. You can also make that frequency resonate on either or both the upper and lower bands and you can also steer that extra energy with a ADSR curve.

Changes in 2.0:

  • You can now disable the resonator in both bands.
  • Added a simple brick wall limiter.
  • Added a bypass button, easier handling for mastering purposes.
  • Added a side chained ADSR.
  • Added the ability to totally turn off the bands.
  • Added a incoming gain button.
  • Added wet / dry control.

Noisebud’s donationware: There’s always a free, fully featured, version of every plugin but it will be in black & white. If you appreciate our work and donate you’ll get a full color version of the plugin.

basiQ

basiQ free eq by Kuassa

basiQ is a free equalizer VST, Audio Unit plugin developed by Kuassa. Compatible OS(s): Windows 64b, macOS.

basiQ is an acronym for Baxandall Simulation Equalizer, a free 3-band equalizer plug-in with photorealistic graphics from Kuassa, Inc.

As the name implies, the engine is modeled after a design of classic baxandall equalizer well known for its smooth shelves and natural-sounding responses, similar to the tone control on a hi-fi systems. The simple controls allow you to shape the frequency from many sources to your needs, from opening up an air on guitar leads, adding a gentle shimmer on vocals, giving extra oomph on your synth basslines, or even getting more presence from your masters.

It’s well-suited for mixing or mastering purpose although the neutral characteristic of basiQ are more suitable as a sweetening device or giving some transparent tilt to your mix rather than a surgical device.

Features:

  • FREE.
  • Simple tone control with large Low, Mid, and High knobs.
  • Preset Management with 12 preset slot within a single bank.
  • Mono and Stereo applicable.
  • Supports up to 96 kHz Sample Rate.
