Arsenal Compressor LE

Arsenal Compressor LE is a free compressor VST plugin developed by Ourafilmes. Compatible OS(s): Windows.

This plugin is a complete vintage compressor with internal side-chain filters and M/S (Mid/Side) processing. This free LE version does not feature the Threshold and Mix knobs or their functions: it has a fixed threshold (-25 dB) and its set as 100% wet effect (you can’t blend it with the original signal). Use it to process any sound that needs dynamic processing. Use the side-chain feature to process only certain frequencies, leaving the other frequencies unprocessed. And last but not least, with the M/S feature, you can process dynamically only the Mid, the Sides or even achieve parallel compression (50/50) but in M/S.

This is a 32-bit VST plugin and it is a limited version of the Arsenal Compressor plugin, only available in our FX and Total Packs.

as_fbComp is a free compressor VST plugin developed by Anton Savov. Compatible OS(s): Windows.

as_fbComp is a Feedback Compressor/Limiter.

The plug-in uses 2 input and 2 output channels.

There are two modes of operation:

Mono – the detector uses L and R input channels, but only the L channel is sent out as audio (R input is used as side-chain input).

Stereo – the detector uses L and R input channels, and they are both processed with gain reduction and sent out (gain reduction is the same for both).

This compressor is not transparent. It has DC-removing filters on the inputs and outputs, and the outputs pass through a slightly non-symmetrical soft-shaper, which also hard-clips to 0dB.

Main controls:

Threshold.

Input (pre-amplification).

Attack.

Release.

Output (post-amplification).

Dry.

Side-chain controls:

Source (balance between L and R for the detector, only works in Mono mode).

Low shelf Gain.

Low shelf Cutoff.

The compressor works at 4x oversampling. There is a latency of 2 or 3 samples which is not reported to the Host.

Amplitude Imposer takes two stereo inputs, and imposes the amplitude envelope of the first one onto the second. It also has a feature where you can set a threshold level, and whenever the second signal’s amplitude falls below it, it is automatically amplified up to the threshold, in order to give a more constant signal to the amplitude imposer part.

It’s kind of like a compressor, but backwards.

Advanced Clipper

Advanced Clipper is a free limiter and clipper VST plugin developed by Christian Budde. Compatible OS(s): Windows.

Advanced Clipper is basically a hard-clipping plugin with two stages. Additional oversampling reduces alias noise. The oversampling algorithm is based on butterworth filters (as can be found in rubberfilter) and thus will affect the group delay (you can notice a delay of some samples in extreme cases).

ABX Compressor Test VST

ABX Compressor Test VST is a free compressor VST plugin developed by Michael Gruhn Audio. Compatible OS(s): Windows.

ABX Compressor Test is a research VST plug-in that implements 18 different compressor modes – that is 18 more or less significantly different algorithms. It was created to research how a good compressor should sound (and therefore how it must be designed).

All compressor designs are feed-forward and peak-detecting. The side-chain is always not filtered. The signal path is also unfiltered, that is it contains no sound enhancing of any kind (except for the gain adjustment performed by compression).

Different modes
The different modes comprise different envelope follower types, different transfer functions as well as different inter-operation between the internal parts of the compressor. The modes are numbered from 1 to 18, the literals in parenthesis hint at the difference and can be interpreted as follows:

HQR = High quality transfer function (ratio).

LQR = Low quality transfer function (ratio).

S = Smooth operation (release).

Anyone is free to use and share this VST plug-in as long as they evaluate the different compressor modes to the best of their knowledge and report their findings and comments in this thread in the KVRAudio.com forum (where the plug-in is available for download).

A1TriggerGate

A1TriggerGate is a free gate VST, Audio Unit, AAX plugin developed by Alex Hilton / A1AUDIO. Compatible OS(s): Windows, macOS.

A1TriggerGate is a ‘Sequenced Gate’ plugin to chop up any incoming audio signal. It is a well known effect in electronic music and sometimes also known as ‘Trance Gate’ effect.

Pattern Sequence

This plugin synchronizes to the host sequencer / DAW tempo. Each internal sequencer pattern consists of 4 beats / 16 steps (or 12 steps in Triplet mode). Each step length is eighter a ‘ShortStep’, ‘LongStep’, ‘StepLink’ or ‘NoStep’ and has its own step volume fader. There are 8 independent patterns that can be switched via automation.

Integrated FX

The integrated FX (Lowpass Filter, Drive/Distortion and Echo/Delay) are designed for easy usage. There is only a minimal number of parameters to get the desired effect as fast as possible. Of course there is a ‘Global FX Off’ switch to step through all presets without hearing any of the integrated FX. Professional producers will appreciate that little feature.

Pattern Commands

In Expert Mode there a 4 pattern command tabs featuring ‘shift left/right’, ‘copy & paste, ‘random’ and ‘init’ commands eighter for the step volume values, the step lenght values or all of them. Especially the ‘random’ command on step length values gives interesting results and is a good source for inspiration.
