Glass Armanica

Glass Armanica free rompler by Distropolis

Glass Armanica is a free rompler VST plugin developed by Distropolis. Compatible OS(s): Windows.

Glass Armanica is a sample-based recreation of Benjamin Franklin’s rubbed glass instrument known as the Glass Harmonica or Hydrocrystalophone.

The samples were created by filling wine glasses with water and tuning them with a chromatic tuner to the appropriate pitches (drop by drop). Distropolis originally planned to recreate all three octaves of the real instrument, but ran out of sufficiently large wine glasses. An enhanced version of the Glass Armanica may be released in the future if this problem can be overcome…

Features:

  • A single octave of samples running from MIDI note 72 to 84 (Octave 6).
  • Amplitude ADSR controls.
  • Reverb with width, size and mix controls.
  • Hi-Cut and Master Volume controls.

Fujiya MC-3A

Fujiya MC-3A free soundbank by StrayWorx

Fujiya MC-3A virtual instrument is a free toy sound bank for Kontakt, by StrayWorx.

Fujiya MC-3A aka. “Look, what I found in Granny’s basement!

The Fujiya MC-3A is a

legendary
synthesizer from the end of the good old 80’s. It’s intended to be the rival of the

awesome
Casio toy-synths.

We can say, they succeed.

StrayWorx is proud to present the

faithful
recreation of this

fabulous
gem, entirely made with NI Kontakt. Originally, this sound library meant to be an entry for KVRaudio DC2012 competition but due to various reasons, there wasn’t enough time to finish it until deadline.

It is still not complete but we’d like to release it to the public as a Christmas gift. Download and enjoy this

weltmeister
sound library and have fun with it.

Details:

  • Deep sampled sounds, signal sent through TLA tube preamp (actually, this is true).

  • 1:1 copy of original hardware
  • Beautiful and Easy-to Use GUI with

    precise
    positioned buttons.
  • Authentic 50Hz groundloop on C6 key (96).
  • 12 Orchestra sound.
  • Auto-bass on the lower keys.
  • All 49 keys sampled.
  • 64 note polyphony, it is 16x more than the original.
  • Power On button and Power On & Off sounds.
  • Separate Volume sliders for Auto-bass, Rhythm section and Master.
  • Authentic yellow DrumPads

    work as a real key-pad
  • A lot of buttons to play with – but most of them has no function, they are nice anyway.

  • Rhythm section with built-in accompaniment
    .

  • All the function of the synth is programmed and available to use
  • Full Kontakt 4.2.2 (or newer) required.
  • 130MB (zipped) using Kontakt lossless compression.
  • Completely free to download and use.

Tips & tricks:

  • Please keep in mind that the first screen (Main Panel) is just a nice graphic, there are no clickable buttons and sliders.
  • Notice the available screens, Volume control, Orchestra, Rhythm and DrumPads.
  • Don’t forget to turn ON the synth first (Volume Control section).
  • Keep in mind that the synth won’t remember any settings on Power OFF or reload (works as the original hardware).
  • Most of the functions are implemented, all 12 Orchestra sounds are available.
  • Transpose function (-5 note, works as the original hardware) is available with Reset function.
  • Auto-bass is available on the lower part of the keyboard.
  • DrumPads are fully implemented and fun to play with.
  • Sustain function works like it should.
  • Vibrato function is not available.
  • Volume controls are implemented, you can change the loudness of Auto-bass, Drumpads and Master section.
  • Rhythm patterns and tempos change are unavailable (might be added later).
  • Custom drummer function as not available.
  • …we forgot to implement the Demo button and music :(.
  • Auto-accompaniment functions are unavailable.

MC-3A, you’re drunk, go back to the basement

FTM String

FTM String free rompler by LMS

FTM String is a free rompler VST plugin developed by LMS. Compatible OS(s): Windows.

Within the scope of a student project under the supervision of Stefan Petrausch, Daniel Maaß programmed FTM String, with which it is now possible to test the algorithms for digital sound syntheses via physical modeling, developed at the laboratory, in practice. In doing so, a model of an oscillating string in terms of a partial differential equation was solved with the Functional Transformation Method (FTM).

FTM String provides a simulation of an oscillating string which is excited at a certain point by plucking or striking. However, due to the generality of the string model, it is possible to simulate any kind of one-dimensional oscillating object with this plugin. This includes a number of string instruments, like guitars, basses, and the Cembalo, but also several percussion instruments, like the xylophone, the vibraphone, and chimes. The type of simulated instrument is determined alone by the physical parameters of the model, which can be adjusted both continuously variable and on the fly. Hence, the advantage of the plugin, and in consequence the advantage of the Functional Transformation Method (FTM), is more the variability and the flexibility of the synthesizer, rather than the exact reproduction of real instruments.

Fretless Zither

Fretless Zither free rompler by Versilian Studios

Fretless Zither is a free rompler VST, Audio Unit plugin developed by Versilian Studios. Compatible OS(s): Windows 64b, macOS.

The fretless zither is a simple “parlor instrument” consisting of a sound box with strings going across the top and a sound hole in the middle. To the left is generally a section of “chord” strings, which, when a set of these is strummed with the finger, will play a certain chord. To the right is a chromatic scale, generally two octaves, which consist of the “melody” half.

A friend showed me this one while I was visiting and I was instantly enthralled by the instrument despite its poor shape and complete lack of tuning. I spent a day tuning it and recording some samples of the notes in a semi-studio setup. I compiled the samples I made into this basic fretless zither virtual instrument, using the Maize Sampler software.

Contains:

  • c. 4 Octaves of melody (last octave and a half and top half octave derived from harmony samples and extension of the top samples).
  • Effects (knocks, chromatic gliss.).
  • Harmony (5 chords- Bb Maj, F Maj, D Min, C Maj, and G Min).
