Imagine a standard compressor with a filter inserted in the side-chain, so that it only responds to certain frequencies. Now imagine that instead of controlling the overall gain of the signal, it only controls the volume of specific frequencies… you just discovered dynamic EQ – IQ4gui.
In other words, it can compress or expand specific frequencies in a similar manner to multi-band compression (but with a very different character) or it can de-ess, or perform more esoteric functions such as ducking one frequency when another is prominent.
You may find it easier to imagine the process as an automatic EQ, which can be used to cut a certain frequency only when it becomes a problem, or apply a boost only when that region isn’t already loud enough.
While the audio signal passes through all four EQ bands in series, the side-chain filters are configured in parallel and are all fed from the main input, so changes to band one (for example) will not affect the amount of gain reduction or expansion applied by any other bands.

IIEQ Pro CM is part of the DDMF CM EQ Pack, which is free with Computer Music magazine issue 179. The pack contains two equaliser plug-ins for PC and Mac, in VST and AU formats: IIEQ Pro CM is an all-purpose EQ, whereas LP10 is focused more on mastering, offering linear phase and variable phase operation. Hotel S.O.A.P (Son Of A Pitch) is the first saltline plug-in designed with the FreePlayer guitar effects controller in mind. It is also the first in a series of Son Of A Pitch based plug-ins planned for release. Hotel S.O.A.P is a pitch “effect”. It is not designed to provide pitch correction.
Plus one octave to Minus one octave, a delay-based pitch bend effect, Hotel S.O.A.P can be used as a virtual whammy bar but can also perform more extreme pitch bend tasks. It features a dead zone so that the user may adjust the pitch response to suit their style. The reflex control alters H S.O.A.P’s pitch increase rate.

- Dead zone: The dead zone sets the point at which pitch shifting occurs. This allows the user to alter how far the pitch knob is turned before pitching kicks in.
- Reflex changes the time it takes the pitch to reach it’s maximum state. The lower the reflex control is set the more responsive pitching becomes. Setting the reflex higher increases the time it takes to reach the defined pitch no matter how fast the pitch knob is turned.
