CombOver

CombOver free filter by runagate

CombOver is a free filter VST plugin developed by runagate. Compatible OS(s): Windows.

CombOver is an FSU effect based on Comb Filters. Unlike a normal comb filter effect CombOver is trying too hard to cover up the naked pate of boring audio. Unlike those old FSU fx this one is understandable, programmable and doesn’t explode with feedback. But similarly otherworldly, wet or electric, exploding or glitchy and twitching sounds are possible with CombOver.

CombOver features delay times controlled by pitch detection and harmonic overtone series slider bank modulated by a step sequencer, a vector mixing X/Y pad top select amongst the delay times of four different harmonic-modulated delay times and a harmonic mix control to blend in harmonics with the root pitch-controlled comb filter. There are five comb filters in all.

Features:

  • 5 modulated comb filters.
  • Comb filter time modulation provided by input audio pitch detection.
  • 16 graphical sliders to choose 16 harmonic overtones for modulation source.
  • 16-step sequencer to modulate selected harmonic overtone for time modulation.
  • X/Y joystick-controlled vector mixer to blend between 4 harmonically-modulated comb filters.
  • A variety of tempo-synced beat division choices for the sequencer.
  • Stereo peak hold control on the pitch detector to ensure sensible pitch detection from stereo inputs, also acts as modulation smoothing envelope.
  • Pitch detection octave selection control.

Chorrosive

Chorrosive free distortion by BetabugsAudio

Chorrosive is a free distortion VST plugin developed by BetabugsAudio. Compatible OS(s): Windows.

Chorrosive is a simple device: it accepts audio in, “runs it through various types of battery acid”, and drops it out the other side. The ‘Battery Acid’ is comprised of a chorus unit, band pass filter and transistor emulation, applied to the incoming audio in varying degrees.

Common usage is via the Large Friendly Dial on the front. Turn it up to stir the acid; turn it down to retrieve your original signal.

Buffer Synth Alpha

Buffer Synth Alpha free buffer-synth by ndc Plugs

Buffer Synth Alpha is a free buffer synth VST plugin developed by ndc Plugs. Compatible OS(s): Windows 64b, macOS.

Buffer Synth Alpha is a lo-fi performance effect. It reads the audio input into a buffer, and when it receives a MIDI note, plays back the contents of the buffer at the pitch of the note. Checking the Freeze Buffer parameter will stop the plugin reading audio into its buffer while the MIDI note is held, giving the familiar ‘stuck buffer’ effect.

Note that this is not an ‘alpha-version’ but a finished plugin.

BRSfx

BRSfx free distortion | glitch by anosci

BRSfx is a free distortion and glitch VST plugin developed by anosci. Compatible OS(s): Windows.

BRSfx is short for “Bad Radio Signal effect.”

It converts the incoming signal into something emulating an FM radio transmission, applies various distortions, and decodes the result.

This becomes very noisy very quickly, so exercise caution.

black box slight disorder

black box slight disorder free glitch by de la Mancha

black box slight disorder is a free glitch VST plugin developed by de la Mancha. Compatible OS(s): Windows.

Although several theories have been put forward, no-one knows exactly how the black box works. What is known is that it will take an audio input and spit out a modified signal.

The rhythmic, choppy, buffered and tempo sync output is especially pleasing on drums, but works for most instruments and vocals too. It has no controls, only a red LED display that runs from 000 to 099, each number would appear to change the algorithmic undertones that affect the things and stuff inside differently. Some of these so-called ‘programs’ appear to loop the effect, others don’t. Sometimes the things are faster and the stuff slower, other times it’s the opposite.

Bit Fluzer

Bit Fluzer free bit-crusher by NUSofting

Bit Fluzer is a free bit crusher VST, Audio Unit plugin developed by NUSofting. Compatible OS(s): Windows 64b, macOS.

Bit Fluzer is an audio effect similar to standard “bit crushers”, but featuring two channels with input filters and audio bit reductions modulated by two LFOs. Using the Bit Fluzer plugin you can alter the bit depth of the audio signal from your instruments or audio tracks in your DAW in various ways. The two bit depth controls range from one to 20 bits in continuous fashion, moreover the bit depth can be made to rhythmically oscillate with the LFOs. That way you can obtain a range of mono or stereo modulating effects: from subtle “sound warming”, due to the soft noise introduced by a little bit depth reduction, to more aggressive distortions and groovy patterns. The two channels can work independently on different sections of the audio spectrum, since one channel features a lowpass filter and the other a highpass filter.

We release this freeware effect plugin also to advocate the main motives of repair.org, that is to rise awareness about the possible “progressive loss of rights” of users to fix and maintain their own electronic devices. We think this is especially relevant for musicians who are used to customising and fixing their instruments, either acoustic or electronic.” Therefore, beside the economical and environmental concerns, the products policy of some hardware firms could damage the creative habits of artists using electronic devices. You may see the repair.org website for more info.

Disclaimer: NUSofting has no benefit from, or association with, repair.org or individuals involved in that “United States based” organization.

Features:

  • Channel 1 features a Lowpass filter. Channel 2 features a Highpass filter.
  • Both channels take the input as mono: left + right:
    • Channel 1: left + right >>>input gain >>> lowpass >>> bith depth >>> output gain >>> pan.
    • Channel 2: left + right >>>input gain >>> highpass >>> bith depth >>> output gain >>> pan.
  • You can create a new stereo image on the output using the pan controls.
  • The LFOs when “free running” the rate range is 0.01 to 26.00 Hertz, when in “sync” the rate range is 1 bar to 1/32 (assuming a 4/4 time signature), and it will modulate the bit reductions relatively to the value of the bit depth controls.
  • The level of the input can be adjusted between -12 and +12 dB.
  • The dry/wet slider allows to mix the stereo input with the effected signals.
  • All parameters can be automated inside a DAW.
  • Scalable GUI and custom colours.
