TapeSound is a free tape emulator Stand Alone, VST plugin developed by Rancorsoft. Compatible OS(s): Windows.

TapeSound is a VST instrument pre-loaded with 9 sound loops of real tape hums and noise. TapeSound contains reel tapes, video tapes, cassette tapes, and more all in high fidelity. TapeSound is activated by MIDI – you can change the pitch of the output by playing / sending higher or lower MIDI notes to it. Then you can fine tune the sound with the Speed slider on the turntable, until you find that perfect tape feel.

TAL-NoiseMaker is an improved version of TAL-Elek7ro and has a completely new synth engine and a lot of improvements in sound and usability. The synth also includes a small effect section with a reverb, chorus and a simple bit-crusher effect.

A display shows the knob and slider values. This allows more control over the synth. A ring-modulator and a syncable triangle are also part of this synth. TAL-NoiseMaker includes new filter types as the self resonating 6dB low pass and a notch filter. Its improved amplitude ADSR is very suitable for slow pads as for really fast envelopes.

SynthWiz Simple Synth has been designed to illustrate some of the concepts in the book “Becoming a Synthesizer Wizard: From Presets to Power User” by Simon Cann (published by Course Technology PTR, ISBN: 978-1598635508). The synthesizer is available to download for free (i.e. you don’t need to buy the book to get the synth).

The synthesizer has been specifically designed to be a straightforward synthesizer with a limited set of features (one oscillator, one low-pass filter, one envelope to control the filter cut-off, and one envelope to control the volume). SynthWiz Simple Synth isn’t a synthesizer you are likely to use everyday, instead it has two specific purposes:

First, it is intended as a straightforward synthesizer for anyone looking to get to grip on subtractive synthesis and sound design basics. These principles are demonstrated with this synthesizer in Becoming a Synthesizer Wizard and they can then be applied to any synthesizer.

Second, it is intended for people who want to develop an understanding about modular synthesizers and how to create synthesizers using SynthEdit (SynthWiz Simple Synth was built with SynthEdit and the underlying SynthEdit files are also available for free download). As you would expect, you are walked through the construction of the synthesizer in Becoming a Synthesizer Wizard.
