ProjectX1

ProjectX1 free software-synthesizer by JC Productionz

ProjectX1 is a free software synthesizer developed by JC Productionz. Available format(s): VST for Windows.

ProjectX1 is a hybrid bass synth featuring urban type bass sounds utilizing subtractive, FM and phase distortion synthesis.

ProjectX1 is essentially a monophonic synth but also has a pseudo stereo mode and features 3 oscillators, osc sync, 2 filters, LFO, 2 ADSRs, mod envelope generator, 2 waveshapers, tube amp and bit crusher effects, 2 modulation matrixes with 24 possible destinations with the option of signal inversion. The phase distortion osc has 2 wave generators each comprising of 8 waveforms, and the FM osc comes with 7 standard waveforms and also has a sync mode. There’s an add-on unison oscillator which includes 3 waveforms.

Each oscillator has fine tune and transpose functions and the synth also has a master fine tune control. There are 3 main modes of operation which are FM, phase distortion and FM+phase distortion with a mix knob to get more level from either oscillator. The first filter has Low Pass or HP operation and has an analog/digital emulator, bass boost, Q tap and clear/furry options; the 2nd filter acts more like a basic eq and is in a fixed mode of operation.

You can view your sounds/waveforms via the frequency analyser or onboard scope. In pseudo stereo mode you can control left and right levels via separate sliders in the master section in the top left of the synth; also in this section there is retrigger, velocity switch, master level and glide. The included LFO is host synced and doesn’t operate in free mode. The tube amp has adjustable clipping hardness, bias, and power supply regulation, clipping and/or crossover distortion. Most of the parameters on this synth can be automated via MIDI or your host automation.

Features:

  • 3 oscillators.
  • 2 ADSRs and 1 mod.

Podolski

Podolski free software-synthesizer by u-he

Podolski is a free software synthesizer developed by u-he. Available format(s): VST, VST3, Audio Unit for Windows 64b, macOS.

Podolski is a simple, CPU-efficient virtual analogue synth. A cut down version of FilterscapeVA with just one oscillator, one filter, one envelope and two LFOs, it also features a Zebra-style arpeggiator/sequencer and chorus/delay effects.

Podolski’s specialities are the Click parameter (emphasizes the filter attack) and its ability to seamlessly morph between three waveforms (WaveWarp).

Version 1.0 was released as a free gift for visitors to the u-he booth during Musikmesse 2005. Right after Musikmesse it went on the cover mount CD of the German KEYBOARDS magazine (later Sound & Recording). Podolski was u-he’s first “magware” offering, and was distributed with each issue until about 2009.

In December 2012 Podolski has been refurbished with new presets by Howard Scarr, has undergone a GUI makeover and supports a wider range of plug-in formats. It has become regular freeware since then, freely available for download from u-he’s website.

PG-23P

PG-23P free software-synthesizer by Stumm

PG-23P is a free software synthesizer developed by Stumm. Available format(s): VST for Windows.

PG-23P is an emulation of the Roland JX-3P from the PG-200 programmer’s interface. It was developed using a physical JX-3P and available specifications in order to match all routing, depth, tuning, and value ranges as closely as possible. It has all the characteristics and features of the JX-3P’s synthesis including:

  • Multi-Routed ENV and LFO Destinations, with Depth and Post ON/OFF switches for quick switching of Patch variations.

  • 3 Cross Modulation modes: NONE, SYNC, and METAL (a type of Ringmod w/ DCO-1 as the carrier).
