ScanSynth

ScanSynth free software-synthesizer by Smart Electronix

ScanSynth is a free software synthesizer developed by Smart Electronix. Available format(s): VST for Windows.

by mdsp of Smart Electronix

ScanSynth is a synth based on “scanned synthesis” as described by Bill Verplank, Max Mathews and Robert Shaw in this article (20KB PDF).

“To make audible frequencies, the “shape” of the dynamic system, along a closed path, is scanned periodically. The pitch is determined by the speed of the scanning function. Pitch control is completely separate from the dynamic system control. Thus timbre and pitch are independent. This system can be looked upon as a dynamic wave table controlled by the performer.”

The dynamic-string is a mass-spring physical model which is shared by all the voices and users can directly interact with the string’s evolution on the screen. Each voice has 2 scanning-oscillators and a chaotic LFO to add drift and life to the sound.

ScaleFreq Generator

ScaleFreq Generator free fx-plugin-preset by 4irmann

ScaleFreq Generator is a free fx plugin presets plugin for Glisseq developed by 4irmann. Compatible OS(s): Windows, macOS, Linux.

Scalefreq Generator is a tool for rendering frequencies of notes and musical scales into various output formats. It’s primarily aimed for mixing and mastering engineers and other musical interested people.

The frequencies of musical scale or non-scale notes (inverse) are important in mixing and mastering situations. E.g. non-scale frequencies are often attenuated using an EQ.

Currently the following output format renderer are included:

  • Voxengo GlissEQ Filter Renderer: generates importable EQ presets for Voxengo GlissEQ VST plugin.
  • Voxengo GlissEQ Areas Renderer: generates importable EQ Areas presets for Voxengo GlissEQ VST plugin.
  • HTML Renderer: generates HTML pages which contains scale frequency tables.

SB – 101

SB - 101 free software-synthesizer by Spoonboiler

SB – 101 is a free software synthesizer developed by Spoonboiler. Available format(s): VST for Windows.

SB – 101 is a mono/poly one osc synth designed for bass and lead sounds.

The oscillator can be used on its own for sine, saw, ramp, pulse, and noise waveforms, or as the carrier for frequency modulation and phase modulation synthesis. Sync can also be employed from the modulator to the carrier, for the phase sync sound or for more unusual effects.

An ADSR envelope generator routes in either positive or negative variable levels to filter and pitch, as well as controlling the amplitude. An LFO, with several wave shapes, also is routable in positive or negative amounts to filter cutoff, filter resonance, envelope decay rate, and to the width of the pulse wave in the oscillator section.

A classic style arpeggiator is also present, as well as glide and retrigger controls. Glide can be applied to the arpeggio, using an extended gate length. Finally, there is a built in simple delay.

Unusual options on this instrument are: A separate output for the delay signal, which can be turned on in multi-channel hosts in order to have separate eq and FX for dry and effected output; and the ability to set a different midi channel for the arpeggiator for triggering it separately from the regular notes.

SAVIHost

SAVIHost free host | wrapper by Hermann Seib

SAVIHost is a free host and wrapper application developed by Hermann Seib. Compatible OS(s): Windows 64b.

[Image shows SAVIHost with Attack loaded]

SAVIHost is a derivative version of VSTHost that can be used to make any VST Effect or VSTi run like a standalone application.

This offers two major advantages:

  1. Effect or VSTi can be used (tested, checked or tried) easily and directly without the need or search for another host.
  2. Effect or VSTi can be distributed to be tested in a temporary directory without the need of the presence of another host or to search for a dedicated VSTPlugIns-subdirectory. The VSTi-dll can still be used within other hosts like Cubase, Sonar etc. when copied to that host’s VSTPlugins-subdirectory.

For use just rename SAVIHost.exe to the corresponding VSTi.dll e.g. if there is abc123.dll rename SAVIHost.exe to abc123.exe and this will run the VSTi.

Separate versions for VST 2, VST Module Architecture, and VST3 are available in 32- and 64-bit versions.
