Buffer Synth Alpha

Buffer Synth Alpha is a free buffer synth VST plugin developed by ndc Plugs. Compatible OS(s): Windows 64b, macOS.

Buffer Synth Alpha is a lo-fi performance effect. It reads the audio input into a buffer, and when it receives a MIDI note, plays back the contents of the buffer at the pitch of the note. Checking the Freeze Buffer parameter will stop the plugin reading audio into its buffer while the MIDI note is held, giving the familiar ‘stuck buffer’ effect.

Note that this is not an ‘alpha-version’ but a finished plugin.

Buffer Synth 2 is a buffer manipulation plugin, designed to do a number of different things with audio buffers. It could be thought of as a cross between GRM Tools’ Freeze and a wavetable synthesizer, in the way it can be used as either an effect-type plugin, or as an instrument in its own right. To get the most out of it, you’ll need a relatively flexible plugin host – most importantly, one which will allow you to send MIDI data to effects plugins.

BTQ2

BTQ2 is twisting equalizer for bass and treble. Twisting works differently from usual equalization because it relatively preserves output loudness. It does that by using two interlocked pairs of shelf and peak filters – when shelf filter goes up, peak goes down, and vice versa. Some famous studio equalizers use this method to achieve deep bass and sparkling treble while simultaneously reducing muddiness and harshness. You can use it on whole mixes or on individual tracks and it will always speed up the work because it’s simple and intuitive:

Brush Strokes

Brush Strokes is a free software synthesizer developed by ndc Plugs. Available format(s): VST for Windows.

Brush Strokes is an audio-visual instrument with a drawing-based interface. Sound is generated in a manner similar to scanned synthesis, with two oscillators whose waveforms are obtained by scanning the x- and y-axis positions of the trail drawn by the user. The larger the gesture, the louder the sound, and vice-versa, when the mouse is not moving, no sound is generated.

Sending MIDI notes to it will change the pitch of the audio. If you click a mouse button, you will freeze the motion of the brush, and thus the waveforms for the two oscillators will also freeze. The position of the brush, and whether it’s frozen, are both automatable parameters. As the only way to get sound out of the instrument is to move the brush, you won’t be able to record or sequence it in quite the same way you would other VST instruments. Instead of straightforward MIDI data, you’ll need to record your mouse movements as automation.

It converts the incoming signal into something emulating an FM radio transmission, applies various distortions, and decodes the result.
