GSS-370

GSS-370 free software-synthesizer by SynthIV

GSS-370 is a free software synthesizer developed by SynthIV. Available format(s): VST for Windows.

The GSS-370 is an approximate emulation (sound-a-like; this is not an exact emulation) of the Yamaha PSS-370 synthesizer (1980s FM synth). “Circuit-bending” modifications have been added in addition to the Standard synthesizer controls.

Features:
-the PSS-370’s digital synthesizer controls (5 waveforms, octave of modulating oscillator, frequency modulation level, Attack, Decay, and level. Vibrato and sustain (release) switch included)
-Switch between standard and ‘circuit-bent’ controls
-Decibel reading and peak indicator.
-Gain (boost)
-V-Mod (amount note velocity will affect vibrato depth)
-Filter with cutoff, resonance (both LFO controllable), fill, and dry knobs.
-LFO with frequency and depth controls
-Send LFO to: Pitch, PWM (active when Wave=5/pulse), Pan, or Volume. On/off switch included.
-Power on/off
-Mod wheel controls LFO frequency.

GSnap

GSnap free pitch-corrector by GVST

GSnap is a free pitch corrector VST plugin developed by GVST. Compatible OS(s): Windows 64b, macOS, Linux.

GSnap is an auto-tune effect. It can be used subtly to correct the pitch of a vocal, or, with more extreme settings, to create a robot-voice effect.

For GSnap to work effectively, the input signal should be monophonic, at a good level and reasonably noise-free. For example, a clean, mono vocal recording, without excessive noise or reverb. Effect plug-ins should be placed after GSnap in the signal chain.

GSnap starts off by detecting the pitch of the incoming audio. The Min Freq and Max Freq parameters help the pitch-detector by narrowing the range of frequencies it needs to consider. Also, the Gate parameter should be set so that the pitch-detector ignores background noise during “silent” passages.

The Speed parameter sets the number of wave repetitions required for positive pitch-detection. Lower values for Speed will allow faster pitch-detection, but will increase the chance of false detection. The default value should be fine in most cases.

Once a pitch has been determined, GSnap applies the specified pitch-correction. There are two modes of pitch correction: fixed scale and MIDI. Fixed scale correction has a fixed set of snap-notes, while MIDI correction is controlled in real time by MIDI data.

The Threshold parameter sets the largest pitch-shift that will be applied to the input. It defines a region around each snap-note that will be corrected to that note. The GUI shows the snap-notes and regions in effect at any time.

The pitch-detection and correction can be made to use a different reference frequency using the Calibrate parameter. This sets the frequency of A above middle C.

Additionally, GSnap will respond to pitch-bend and modulation MIDI messages to apply pitch-bend and vibrato. The Pitch Bend, Vibrato and Vib Speed parameters control these effects.

GSinth2

GSinth2 free software-synthesizer by GVST

GSinth2 is a free software synthesizer developed by GVST. Available format(s): VST for Windows 64b, macOS, Linux.

GSinth2 is essentially the same as GSinth, but with a few extra features. Most notably, GSinth2 offers new oscillator types: triangle, square and saw-tooth.

GSinth is a monophonic synth with three sine oscillators. It also features an LFO for controlling the output level.

The first oscillator will play at the frequency of the MIDI note pressed. The remaining two oscillators can be set to play at a multiple of this frequency. You can also de-tune each oscillator.

For each oscillator, you can set attack, release and portamento times. The portamento time is the time taken to “slide” from one note to the next.

The PortaRst parameter sets the amount of time before resetting portamento. After that time, a new note will not “slide” from the previous note. This is useful to prevent the first note of a piece from sliding from whichever note was played last.

The Random button randomizes all of the parameters. This can often give inharmonic sounding results because of oscillator de-tuning. Holding shift while clicking on Random produces better-behaved presets.

The AutoLevel button will set the MainLvl parameter so that the peak output level is around -3dBFS.

Growlybass

ZynAddSubFX free software-synthesizer by paulnasca 2

Growlybass virtual instrument is a free bass sound bank for Sforzando, by Karoryfer.

A sample library of a Squier Jazz bass guitar. The sustained notes have four round robins and four velocity layers. The staccato notes have one velocity layer and five round robins, and their endings are also used for the key release samples. Everything is sampled every minor third, with the low string also sampled tuned down to C#. Finally, there are some pick scrapes with four round robins. All that adds up to 310 24-bit 44.1 kHz wav samples and a 159 MB download.

Seven different SFZ mappings are included. The samples are recorded direct and processed only with noise reduction, so for a classic bass guitar sound they should be used with an amp simulator. The demo uses the most realistic mapping run through free amp sim and channel strip plugins, followed by the least realistic three-voice mapping run through a sweeping low-pass filter, reverb and compression.
