NanoX2

NanoX2 is an additive sequenced groovebox that features:

A raw 8bit-style sound inspired by the sound of gaming systems & consoles from the past.

A sequencer that triggers eight partials inspired by NanoSynth (by Oliver Wittchow & Julian Rohrhuber).

A scene-morphing sequencer that will fuse the previous features into a nice mess.

Differently from its predecessor, NanoX2 doesn’t require MIDI notes to be triggered and pitched. Open it and just press play on your sequencer to start the serenade, it’s loaded with 124 preset patterns.

Nanotron

Nanotron is a free rompler VST plugin developed by Dream Vortex Studio. Compatible OS(s): Windows.

Nanotron is a recreation of a Novatron/Mellotron. The voices were recorded using a Studer A80 in 1979, the Ampex 406 tape developed oxide failure in 1990 and was transferred to DAT, the DAT was lost and later found in 2002.

The three voice tracks are Male/Female Choir, String Orchestra, and Flute.

NanoMod 7: 8-bit synths

NanoMod 7: 8-bit synths virtual instrument is a free sound bank for Kontakt, by Rhythmic Robot.

NanoMod 8-bit is a simple but versatile Kontakt synthesiser based on vintage 8-bit polysynths, featuring an “intelligent” interface that allows the user to adjust multiple parameters with single controls. It is offered as part of the KVR Developers’ Challenge 2014.

NanoMod 8-bit brings the simplicity of Rhythmic Robot‘s NanoMod interface to bear on the crusty, gritty, aliased sounds of classic 8-bit synthesisers of the early to mid 80s. Using source waves taken from vintage Ensoniq hardware and a front-end incorporating convolved Wasp and MS20 filters, this NanoMod is aimed squarely at big, powerful polysynth sounds – everything from warm and evolving pads to screaming leads.

The wave blend dial to the left of the panel shifts between the two raw waveforms at the heart of the NanoMod, both of which were sampled from vintage 8-bit Ensoniq synths. One is a rough, aggressive sawtooth-based tone, with two detuned saws added to a pulse-width modulated pulse wave for a shifting and thick sound with a lot of harmonics for the filters to bite into. This is intended as a very versatile “classic” synth sound, though with the inevitable artefacts and distortions of the 8-bit resolution clearly evident. The second wave is a shiny, breathy, noise-rich digital wave very typical of early 80s digital synthesisers, which lends sheen and aliasing noise to the mix. Intermediate positions on the dial blend these two waves, yielding a wide range of starting points for all kinds of synth tones.

These starting points can then be sculpted with the set of “intelligent” controls, which adjust multiple parameters behind the scenes. The Grit Filter pushes the raw sound through convolved vintage filters sampled from Wasp and MS20 circuitry, while the Smooth Filter allows for sweeps and more precise adjustments. Glow and Shimmer add movement to the sound, while Warmth adds analogue-style instability. The Glitch button musically randomises all the controls for instant inspiration and patch generation, with its intelligent algorithm biasing it towards musically useful results. Any patch you create can of course be saved.

NanoMods are all about simplicity and fun, and NanoMod 8-bit continues the tradition. It is capable of generating thousands of unique patches with a handful of intelligent controls, and best of all, it’s absolutely free.

Nanologue

The nanoKONTROL Control Surface plug-in for GarageBand/Logic dramatically improves performance with Apple’s GarageBand and Logic when using Korg’s nanoKONTROL Slim-Line USB Controller hardware. This plug-in is in response to worldwide requests from many users of the nanoKONTROL and both GarageBand and Logic.

Because Apple’s GarageBand doesn’t allow users to assign CC settings, previously there was no way for users to customize MIDI controllers. The plug-in for Logic offers simplified settings – manually assigning settings in Logic can be very difficult and the template used by Korg requires installation in a way not recommended by Apple. However, by using the “nanoKONTROL Control Surface plug-in for GarageBand/Logic” installation is done as recommended by Apple and nanoKONTROL works with Logic Pro without complicated settings.

What is NanoHost?

Tone2 NanoHost is a free, minimalist host application which can load VST-synths. Furthermore, it can act as a wrapper which converts VST-synthesizers into standalone applications.
This tiny tool works best for live-performance, sound-design, jam-sessions and testing.

What is special about NanoHost?

It is free, requires no registration and you are allowed to share it with your friends.

It requires no installation. You can run it directly from a USB-stick or CD.

There is no plugin-scanning required since a plugin can be loaded directly – no matter where it is located on the hard-disc.

Because of low-level code-optimization it offers highest performance and can operate with lower latency than conventional hosts.

The GUI refreshes with an extremely high frame-rate (120 Hz). That’s why you will experience smoother animations and graphics than with other hosts.

NanoHost itself requires nearly no space on the screen. As a result there is more space available for the interface of the VST-plugins.

The software is very small. It requires (nearly) no hard-disc space and is loading extremely fast.

Unlike conventional hosts the soundcard settings can be configured individually for every single plugin. This allows you to achieve the best possible performance for your VSTs.

NanoHost is very easy to use and offers context-sensitive help.

It can convert a VST-synth into a standalone-application. You just need to rename NanoHost.exe to the name of the plugin.dll and copy it to the same directory. When you start plugin.exe, the VST-synth is wrapped and loaded automatically.

It offers a soft-clipping algorithm with low distortion and tube-sound.

Naive LPF

Naive LPF is a free filter VST plugin developed by Admiral Quality. Compatible OS(s): Windows.

Naive LPF is a resonant low-pass filter with envelope follower. It has been developed to closely model the way some real world analog circuits work, as opposed to some other techniques which, while well adapted to the math processing power of a computer, just don’t seem to render the same organic feel. Not to say that those techniques aren’t just as valid, but Admiral Quality was aiming for a vintage, analog feel with Naive LPF.

NOTE: Its creation is primarily as a test-bed for a full soft-synth Admiral Quality have planned.

Features:

Cutoff Frequency: Continually variable, from far above the sample rate of your host down to 0 Hz.

4 Stages: Selecting the number of Stages adjusts the cutoff slope of the filter. More stages make a steeper slope.

Resonance: Enhances frequencies near the cutoff by feeding the inverted output signal back into the input. The resonance can be set high enough that this filter will enter self-oscillation and produce very loud signals, even without any input signal present.

Envelope Follower: Vary the cutoff frequency in response to the dynamics of the input signal, creating “auto-wah” type effects. With Attack and Release controls.

HPF Mode: Subtracts the low-pass filter’s output from the original input, providing a high-pass filter effect.

Output Saturation: Reduce excessive peaks back below 0 dB.
