Royotoms

Royotoms is a free rompler VST, Audio Unit plugin developed by Alan ViSTa. Compatible OS(s): Windows, macOS.

Royotoms is a sampled rototoms set.

This 8 rototoms set was sampled by Roy Miller, it is tuned to play the famous “Time” song by Pink FLoyd. A reverb set of samples was created from the dry samples, using an IR impulse from the legendary EMT-140 plate reverb unit used in the original recording. Credit also goes to Pick Pink who had the idea and took the time to help:

Rough Rider

Rough Rider is a free compressor VST, VST3, Audio Unit, AAX plugin developed by Audio Damage. Compatible OS(s): Windows 64b, macOS.

Rough Rider is a modern compressor with a bit of “vintage”-style bite and a uniquely warm sound. Perfect for adding compression effects to your drum buss, it also sounds great with synth bass, clean guitar, and backing vocals. Definitely not an all-purpose compressor, Rough Rider is at its best when used to add pump to rhythmic tracks. Of course, you can use it however you’d like. The Compressor Police aren’t gonna come to your house and give you a citation. Slap it on a track and crank some knobs.

The front panel layout is done the same as many hardware compressors, so it will be immediately obvious how to use it. A brief overview of the controls:

Ratio: The ratio knob is logarithmic in operation. Completely anti-clockwise is 1:1, and completely clockwise is 1:1000. The 12 o’clock position is 1:10, so everything to the left of center is single digits, and everything to the right is “atom bomb squish,” essentially.

Attack and Release: Audio Damage left off the actual time values, so you’re gonna have to use your ears, like the he-men did it in times of myth.

Meter: That honking big dial in the middle of the UI is the gain reduction meter. It basically shows how much compression is occurring.

Sensitivity: usually called “threshold” now, but Audio Damage think “sensitivity” always made more sense. Turn to the right, you get more compression, essentially. Turn it all the way to the right, and you’ve got a distortion box, the sound of which is tuned by Ratio, Attack, and Release.

Makeup: 30 dB of gain to compensate for the attenuation caused by the compressor.

Active: From the front panel, this is simply an off/on switch, but if you automate it, strange things happen…

MIDI Learn: Like all Audio Damage products, the VST version has MIDI Learn. Download any manual from the current product line for an explanation of how this works as it is common among all Audio Damage VST products.

Roth-AIR

Roth-AIR is a free saturation VST, Audio Unit plugin developed by Rothmann. Compatible OS(s): Windows 64b, macOS.

Roth-AIR is a mixing tool for easily adding airy, crispy presence to your audio.

This is achieved by a combination of multiband compression and gentle saturation of the highs. It enables for a stronger, more consistent presence of high frequency material and works particularly well with vocals, synths and strings.

The process is made easy by a simple user interface, automatic makeup gain and a combined function “AIR” knob.

Roth-AIR is available for free in 32-bit and 64-bit as VST and AU (OS X only) plugins for Windows and Mac.

Rotating Space

Rotating Space is a free stereo imaging VST plugin developed by Florian Königstein. Compatible OS(s): Windows.

“Rotating Space” is a freeware VST effect plug-in for Windows: A 3D panner based on Head-Related Transfer Functions (HRTFs).

Rotating Space simulates a sound source (the stereo input signal) which rotates around up to ten arbitrarily definable axes. You must use headphones to hear the effect. Consider the following arrangement: The stereo input signal is played with two speakers. Over the time the virtual speakers will move around the listener while the distance to the listener keeps constant. You can determine the way in which the speakers move.

Version 1.1.0 offers some improvements over version 1.0.0:

There are 10 processing units (PUs). Each of them can be configured to rotate or mirror one or both of the virtual speakers. Further more they can be used to rotate or mirror the rotation axis of the next PU.

Each PU act like an oscillator which periodically changes the angle of rotation or the amount of mirroring. The phase of this oscillator can now be selected, and it’s easier to set the frequency of an oscillator to be exactly an integer multiply of another oscillator.

A “global frequency” slider can be used to scale the frequencies of all the oscillators simultaneously.

There are new interesting presets.

Rosegarden
